Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

Then pulled the rear, that was time consuming, those leaf bolts did NOT want to come out.

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

Rolled the rear end onto its back to pull the driveshaft, and oil started pouring out, Look at this crap! Cover rusted right though.

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

bah, i'm used to it now, living in rust hell up here has made me bitter. I'm so stupid for not just finding a southern truck and paying the shipping to get it here. Another life lesson learned.

I'll start buying parts now from away, I'm sure rear end covers are a dime a dozen.

Thanks for the comments, we'll move along slowly.

I have them posted somewhere on an old build thread. I got larger than factory ones and enlarged the holes in the crossmember (only a few needed enlarged.)

On the other hand, take a look at VA72C10's build thread. He's going all out on a truck that's a former LWB, and it's still going to fetch a handsome sum when he's done. Look at the second truck in my sig - a LWB going under the knife.

Here's what you've got going for you - you now have the freedom to do whatever you want with this truck. Do you like buddy buckets? Go right ahead. Want to paint the inner fenders body color? Knock yourself out. You aren't bound by what's correct. You have a truck that you can drive and use, not a museum piece. Properly done, this truck isn't going to be worth less anyway.

Keep on going and don't look back. It's still a better use of money than a Las Vegas hooker.

Well, maybe not, but you get my point.
Totally agree with this statement. The truck itself is exactly what you've always wanted and you want to drive the thing and enjoy it, not stick it in a museum as 100% correct collection piece, right? Whats it really matter if it's VIN is off then? These trucks aren't C2 & early C3 Vettes that have numbers matching, 427/435HP, perfectly correct examples bringing enormous sums of money anyway. I left a post earlier today on a hood emblem thread that some of you might have read where a guy is trying to sell one of our trucks he claims is totally stock (nevermind the non stock hood emblem) for $51K on Ebay! Guys out of his friggin mind! Maybe someone out there has a truck like ours that is just so damn special and different and cool, that he could get that from someone for his truck, but its definitely not going to come from a survivor!

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

I'm jealous, your putting your wrecker to use and I can't use mine yet. I wish I had another wrecker so I could lift the wrecker body off of mine! It's HEAVY!!!!

I like the blue and white truck. Big block=COOL.

I'm in the middle of doing the cab on my wrecker and it's a MESS! Probably as bad or worse than yours. The only thing that will be reused is the dash panel and from the lower windshield pillars up to roof and down the back. I replaced the whole front cowl and am putting in a new floor soon. Lots of work but it will be SOLID! I am doing this for alot less than 1,500 too. Up to you, pay the price or do the work. It all equals out in the end; time is money ya know.

Good luck and have fun with it!

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

If you were closer I'd run the wrecker down and pick that body off for ya!!! Lol the brakes are stickIng on mine. I need to fix them.
I saw your cab work! It's awesome. Great job! I unfortunately don't have a welder or the ability to weld, other than stick. So finding a cab is going to be my best option. Someday I'll buy a welder. But in not going to practice on this cab. It's way toast!

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

I had an hour today so I got the old (wow old) sandblaster. Tossed in some fine black beauty and went to town. I got 3/4 of the outside done, not bad for 35 minutes, full bag of sand. I'll work on it more the next week when the kids are in FLA with the X.
Pics later.
