Re: Ol Yeller - 71 Cheyenne SWB BB

I haven't had time to mess with it yet so I don't know, but I suspect it has to do with the HEI dizzy not getting 12 volts, so I'm going to explore that first.

As I write this, I'm in Memphis on my way to Burnsville MS to pickup my pickup ( the second truck in my sig). I bought this truck two years ago from a guy that promised to paint it, and he still hasn't done a thing with it. So tomorrow I will be seeing this truck for the first time. I'll be back home tomorrow night, so maybe I can troubleshoot the dizzy issue Sunday if the weather is decent.

Sorry to hear that the guy didn't do anything with that other truck but atleast your picking it up now. It will be better off in your hands. Good luck figuring out Old Yeller hopefully it's not that big of a problem.

Repairs are always fun for me. I seldom get it the first time and ever less than two trips to the parts store.

At least I can still work on these old trucks. The new ones are ridiculous.

Well, sorry to hear that Steve. I guess you will at least have the truck to work on when you get it home.

Definitely a patina truck Kyle. It had a fair share of O2 lightening done to it.

Re: Ol Yeller - 71 Cheyenne SWB BB

The only thing he did was remove the tailgate. When I told home I was coming to get it he said he wanted $2500 for storage fees!

I got a tow company to go get it and store it for me till I could come get it about a month later. I should be home in a couple hours, I'll post pics.

Yeah, he's a quality individual alright. Turns out he's served time for burglary and aggravated assault. Here's the pics...

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this rascal, but nothing for a while.

Looks like a real solid truck to me. Too bad things went the way they did on the seller's part.
I guess you'll just have to start another build thread

Re: Ol Yeller - 71 Cheyenne SWB BB

Good day today - got Ol Yeller running again. Sure enough the dizzy was wired up to the old 8 volt wire, and when I hooked the electric choke to it, that was too much. So today I ran a switch 12 volt wire to it, and it is one hell of a lot happier now!

I also replaced the speedometer cable. There is a clip that secures it to one of the firewall braces that is damn near impossible to get to. What a PITA something so simple should take 15 minutes for me to do. But anyway, I got that chacked off the to-do list.

I haven't taken a look at the blue truck yet, mostly because I don't want to get distracted. Between this truck and the Biscayne I've got more than enough to go on.

I thought I had parked the blue truck far enough in the back that no one could see it, but one of my neighbors sent my wife this pic:

She must have one helluva Zoom lens, and I know there's no window in the house that is where she took the picture. For you "Bewitched" fans, she's the neighborhood Mrs Kravitz.

Good deal it was something simple to fix the wiring.

Sounds like a good ole neighbor you have there. I'm glad I have nice hiding spot for my "junk"

Re: Ol Yeller - 71 Cheyenne SWB BB

I've been off work since last Thursday, and it's been nice enough I got 36 holes in this weekend - and also had some time to work on Yeller. I got the carpet installed and I got the seats and console in place, marked some holes and getting ready to bolt them in and the seat belts.. Here's the before and after of the interior.

Dang! Steve that looks great! I love the new seats and console. The weather was nice this weekend and I got 36 in too. I wish I was boting seats instead fighting rust. I guess you got your cab seat braces?

Re: Ol Yeller - 71 Cheyenne SWB BB

Thanks for the compliments guys! I'm pretty happy with the way the cabin is turning out - the saddle color wasn't helped by the fact is was pretty worn out, but the parchment really perks the thing up.

Mike, the braces never materialized so I'm doing some cabbing of my own. And before you ask, no pics of my efforts there. Let's just say it involves angle iron and leave it at that.

Kyle, I cannot imagine what part that thing has that would be good enough to be on one of your trucks. Let me know what you need.

I really would like to see what you have planned. I am going to need to make some for mine and can make some for your's too. I just need to come up with a sketch, or detailed pictures with dimensions.

Now, that's going to require some thought. Not ready to part it yet. I spent some time trying to get it running this weekend but I think the fuel pump is out. Didn't want to waste any more time on that so I switched to Yeller so I could feel like I got something accomplished. Definitely going to sell blue one way or the other though.

and how did I miss this build thread! Wow, coming along very nicely. Amazing what a big difference small changes make (like the radio) and then what a GIANT difference things like the seats and carpet make. Looks awesome. What's next?
