I disassembled the engine and repainted the block today. I cleaned up most of the brackets, alternator, and reassembled it. I still have to clean up the power steering pump and brackets. The a/c condenser and brackets will probably be put on hold until I figure out when/if I'm going to put a/c in the truck.

Hey brother, FYI, I'm 99 percent sure your old six cylinder is a 250 not a 292. I don't see the big coolant bypass hose off the front of the head that 292s have. Also, 250s have six inch tall side covers, 292s have nine inch tall side covers.

Not really pertinent in light of the small block you just posted a pic of, but thought I'd throw that in about the old engine.

Thanks, it is a 250, I was told originally it was a 292.

I need a little help here. I've try to search and haven't found the answer on the forum. So I've got the 84 cross member in and I'm planning on using the 84 v8 perches. Here's what I've got, if I bolt the bottom bolts on the perches to the cross member where they originally were the perches have a gap between the frame and the perch on the top side. The gap is about 1/4". From what I can see my two choices are to leave the bottoms and build a spacer plate to fill the gap or bolt the upper perch on the frame and re-drill the lower holes in the cross member. What do people usually do??

Pic added, thanks. Ultimately I'll bolt the perches to the motor and set it in to see where they sit, but I've got a few days until I can work on it again and figured I'd try to figure out how it is usually done.

You are headed in the right direction.
Make a spacer plate for the top of the frame.

73-87 frames are taller than the 67-72 frames.

Pulled the bed off today for two reasons, 1st I was just ready to pull it, and 2nd because I finally got a letter from my home owners association complaining about my "dilapidated inoperable truck" the in my driveway. So tomorrow it's moving to the side of the house.

No real progress on the truck, but I did get my new, free, bed sides home. I don't know when I'll get time to cut it down to a short bed, but it'll happen.

I've gotten together some parts for an idea I have. This is a mixture of new Chevy, Honda, and BMW.

The idea is for a new style emblem for the front fenders. New chevy is the bowtie from a SSR, Honda is the "I" and "O" from a new Pilot, and BMW is the idea of an amber light behind the emblem as a park/turn light. A buddy is woring on the amber backlight which I haven't gotten yet, but here is the bowtie and "10".
