G'day Red,

Was great dropping in and meeting you guys today! Your truck looks fantastic and I can't believe the condition that it is in, especially the inside of the bed. Can't wait to see the future developements. All the best mate, have a great weekend.

Trently.

Red Foreman, Just went through your build again after talking to Trently saying he saw your truck. It is going to be a great truck. Love seeing the old school motor with the tri power. Keep up the great work.

Hey Trent, good catching up with you, your welcome to drop in anytime mate!
Thanks for the compliments on my GMC but my humble graft/build is light weight compared to your project & may I say your frame so far blows me away!

Hi Shannon, Trent said good things about you when we caught at my workshop yesterday. Thanks also for the compliments, I can't wait to sit the 348 in the frame but first I need to fix the swiss cheese firewall & sit the cab back on.

Cheers George.

Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

Its been a while but I'm back again with a little more work done.
Got the original spicer 45 diff back in (flipped of course) I used u bolts & plates from a locally made vehicle which helped re-mount the shockers due to verticle uprights that mount a dampner that I will probably be leaving on.

I also repositioned the shocks up top, by moving the mounts out a couple of inches to straighten them up & take the lean out.

I forgot to mention the shocks are hand-me-downs off my mates 64 c10, they're 4" drop, also brakes are on & 99% of brake lines are done.

Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

Thanks guy's, Its a nice fresh autumn Melbourne morning & I'm going to have a crack at mocking up my new firewall master-cyl/booster & pedal set up that I purchased from POL. As if my firewall is in need of more holes??

Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

Got the master cyl & pedal set up in today, as per instructions. As you can see the firewall looked like it was shot at with a musket & I was about to drill it some more

Master cylinder & pedal assembly bolted up nicely, not sure about the round pedal pad, I think I might swap it out for a rectangle type??

RF: Thanks for commenting on my build. You are flying on yours. I always check the build start date to see how long it takes to get anywhere on these projects. You've come a long way. I already have about 6 months in mine and it seems to be crawling.

Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

Thanks for all the compliments guy's! There's been a lot a action in the project & builds section with alot of awesome builds on the go, so I guess you could say I'm a little inspired to move on with mine.

Next job was to fill all the factory holes in the firewall, I ended up measuring all the holes with a vernier & I ordered a heap of plugs laser cut to size at a local engineering shop....cost $50.00 amount of work saved priceless!!

Called on me mate Jonny to come down & stitch them in.

G'day Red,

It's been too long since I've caught your build. Had a bit going on there by the looks of things. Great little booster set up you've got there. Also fifty bucks well spent on the laser cutting too I'd say. Would have made the job easy I bet. Keep up the good work mate.

Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

Like you Red, I see my truck nearly everyday, but most days at the moment, it's just in the distance if you get my drift. House is going ok but I've got some long stories that go along with it, but not enough room to write them all down here. Lol. I'll have to put a few hours in on the crew soon just to keep my eye in. Happy for how yours is going though!!

Your's had about as many holes as mine did! Makes you wonder what the hell there were adding on and taking off of the truck throughout its life...Looking good though.

Yeh but I think with mine they were all pretty much the factory punched out holes except for a couple of 5/8" holes for an aftermarket heater.

I don't know if its just me but it seems that GMC firewall's had a heap more holes than Chevrolet did? including that big ugly diamond cut out around the steering column? Or was that a Hydramatic thing??

Anyway we welded that part of the firewall up & drilled a 2 7/8" hole to make way for an aftermarket swivel mount.

I planned to keep the original patina but decided to repaint the white roof as it had gone too chalky & had a decent dent in it that had to come out. Also repainting the top dash pad in the original dark turquiose with a hint of mettalic & of course the firewall in the same body colour.

So far dent repairs have been done plus a little filler on the firewall to tidy up. Carmen's the body man, was happy to help out of work time, also brought the big guns down (his dad Joe) to help, thanks Guy's!

Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

If that's factory paint on your cab floor it's about the most rust free one I've seen. I thought these trucks came with more rust than that when they were new, LOL. Nice work you are doing.

Re: 56 GMC Aussie Style

Russell, definitely original paint, a little surface rust here & there but nothing that a scotchie won't clean, both doors have a solid 3/8" size bubble on the bottom which don't look like changing in a hurry but thats pretty much it.
I do feel kinda lucky to have found this gem! Added a couple more pics of the cab.
