C/10 King, can you take some more pictures of the brackets (in and out), for the through the roof one? My son's truck already has a hole in the middle of his roof that we have plugged with a bolt. He wants to put a spotlight there to fill it. LOL

Thanks!!

These are frequently listed on Ebay for dirt cheap, as they are not very popular. Here's a newer example for low cost. I believe this specific example probably has the plastic lamp shell. The only things that appear to be missing are a flat gasket for the outside bracket, and a short piece of fuel tubing for the inside gasket:

Do any of you have any recommendations for a good spot light for my '66? And a good place to get one? Thanks!

My suggestion would be to buy the outside bracket from Unity since they still offer them brand new:

http://shop.unityusa.com/search.asp?keyword=187

This is what the correct 187 bracket looks like:

Note in this template photo the inboard mounting screw is below the body line:

And in this photo with the spotlight removed, the inboard (external) mounting screw hole is again below the body line:

When the correct 187 bracket is used, the inside hole for the shaft enters the cab like this:

For the spotlight, I recommend searching Ebay until you find a New Old Stock Unity “The Beam” with a part number having S6/225A in it:

The “A” indicates the correct shaft length of 12”. The S6 indicates the standard larger 6” lamp head. The smaller version is known as the 5”.

The last one I bought was NOS for $25. Bargains can be found on vintage spotlights, but prices on many are outrageous, as most are rusty, pitted, broken, or have missing pieces. Also the “parking” feature will almost always be worn away to where the lamp head rests on the body of the vehicle. NOS lamps park correctly at any distance from the body panel you prefer. If you decide to buy a 50 year old lamp check the photos very carefully. Many sellers are very clever about taking favorable photos that don’t show the severe pitting on the die cast parts and the chrome lamp shell. The most expensive lamp I ever bought from a popular Ebay seller was almost useless due to pitting and rust. I ended up using the topknot emblem and the black short GM only handle. Just be careful.

The following thread starting at post #12 shows how to modify a “The Beam” version to cosmetically look like a vintage unit. Good luck!

nice mark, definitely worth repeating.
i got a pair of the 5" spots off e-bay and the new installation kits is the way to go. the last time i called (about 1 month ago) the left side were readily available but they only had a few right side. if unity doesn't have them on the shelf it could take several months for the foundry to make more.

Very cool. I actually do have it back. Was sold to a local guy and he got rid of the truck and called asking if I wanted to purchase it back. Its a 60-62 model. I can get pics if interested.

Re: Any pics of trucks with spotlights?????

My truck came with dual Unity spots from the 60's. Unity's customer service is awsome!!!! They were able to work with me and only sell me the parts (inner handel gearing) I needed to get them working again. Their design for these spots have change through the years but most of the parts will fit together.

I'll take close-up pics this afternoon.

Re: Any pics of trucks with spotlights?????

Got this one from an old friends dad. He had a box of spotlights. He just gave one to me because he liked my truck hah. Fit perfectly. Only short one he had. Wish I had a second to match on the other side.
