Re: Project 'Kickin Wing' (No Limits/Hotchkis/PorterBuilt/LS Power)
Hey guys, I figure a few guys that have sub'd to my thread are interested in this 'style' of build and would be interested or could provide insight on a post I made concerning wheel and tire fitment.
Heres the link: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=653202 If you have any thoughts on the choices mentioned please chime in. |

Re: Project 'Kickin Wing' (No Limits/Hotchkis/PorterBuilt/LS Power)
When you get further along, I may be able to help with the wheel fitment. I have about 6 sets of wheels. 18"-22" diameter and 8.5-10" widths all with tires on them and I'm only about an hour away. I could throw some in the truck and make a road trip up.
Just a thought |

Re: Project 'Kickin Wing' (No Limits/Hotchkis/PorterBuilt/LS Power)
Thanks, if you want a quick rendering just PM me with wheel/colors/trim etc. and I'll do one for you when I get free time. If your ever out this way again just let me know, I'm only 10 min from federal. The truck is so spread out right now I don't have anything much to look at here at my place. Let's see some updates on yours!

Re: Project 'Kickin Wing' (No Limits/Hotchkis/PorterBuilt/LS Power)
That should let you run a rear wheel with less backspacing which means bigger lip

It's a House of Kolor base metallic, maybe it's cyber grey? I will check and get the paint code.

Re: Project 'Kickin Wing' (No Limits/Hotchkis/PorterBuilt/LS Power)
Got a bit done this weekend. Got the cab stripped out and dropped off at the sand blaster. Also got a few more tubes added into the frame. Getting pretty close to finished with the bracing. I didnt plan to get the engine and trans in the frame until I got it back home but i am going to have to load it up and bring it over to test fit it. Its just impossible to do the braces near the trans crossmember without having the engine in to build around. I also need to check the driveshaft clearance on the arched crossmember and rear x-brace. I think its going to be fine but want to check for a little peace of mind. Heres are a few pics..

Re: Project 'Kickin Wing' (No Limits/Hotchkis/PorterBuilt/LS Power)
Wow! That's very similar to my truck. I had initially intended to go with black rims as well but changed my mind in mid build. The chrome just pops on that color. I saved money by just using a factory Nissian Alima 2010 Gray I think it was Dark Slate. It had a pearl blue in it. I also love the gray on the Lexus. I'm actually happy I went that route because I damaged my paint in assembly and will have to take it back for touch ups the factory paint makes it a no brainer. But I'm very familiar with those "House of Kolor" paints! I'm sure it will look incredible. The red interior really will give it a hole new level of dimension! Great build! I love the prep work. Honestly that's the only way to go!

Re: Project 'Kickin Wing' (No Limits/Hotchkis/PorterBuilt/LS Power)
Yea I took it to them, they are just easier to work with even if they may be a little more than the others in town. Price seems to be going down the more stuff I bring though, and they are only about 10 minutes from my house.

Re: Project 'Kickin Wing' (No Limits/Hotchkis/PorterBuilt/LS Power)
Been a while since I have posted an update. Got quite a bit done over the holidays and things are finally starting to shape up. Got the cab back from sandblasting.
Took it to my grandparents house where I could use the forklift to lift it and sprayed it bottom and all with epoxy primer to keep the surface rust off until I can get around to the metal work. Boyd Welding efi gas tank showed up. |

Re: Project 'Kickin Wing' (No Limits/Hotchkis/PorterBuilt/LS Power)
Got the engine in and the front suspension all mocked up. Everything fit pretty well, the oil pan clears but is really tight on the crossmember. So when I get the engine back out I will clearance it a little bit. Will also make a little extra room for the AC compressor fitting and the pass side exhaust flange. I am using the TBSS manifolds I picked up locally and they fit really nice.
Driver side fits great with plenty of room for steering shaft even with heat shields still on Passenger side fits good too. I am going to massage the frame a little just to make it easier to work on the exhaust, but it wouldnt be neccesary if you didnt want to. |
