Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

Wrong truck runs, we'll ran. I preloaded them lifters 3/4 turn and it sounded like a loud sewing machine. I went through them again at the same setting, same deal until #7 exhaust lifter failed. Intake comes off tomorrow, ugh!! I believe I goofed at 3/4 turn with the 1.6 rockers. Hope it's not too ugly.

Hopefully nothing major! Never a good time when fresh parts fail. Im hoping to start a build thread of my own here shortly when I get to my cab. It is definatly not as solid as your was to start out with thats for sure!

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

The 1.6 rockers should have no bearing on the amount of lifter preload. I would have gone 1/4 turn to start, but 3/4 should not have caused any problems. Did you have good oil pressure? Oil to the rockers? Were all the galley plugs reinstalled? That sucks having problems like that.

Good post mortem thoughts. I agree the 3/4 turn preload shouldn't be a deal breaker. That said though, nowadays, the conventional wisdom is to use a zinc rich break-in oil and low tension valve springs during the first 20 minutes of run time for any flat tappet. I've also heard it said that all flat tappet cams fail... just a matter of when.

Sorry to hear Dr. Jack Camorkian may have made a visit to your shop, John. You could sure use a little less grief my friend.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

John is running a roller cam, so a rapid cam failure is not an issue.

This is what happens when you're too poor to even pay attention. I obviously need to go back over John's build thread. Interested to hear what shows up when the intake comes off.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

Thanks, guys!
I'll report on the engine build. If I can get this one done, I'm going to bring in the 327 and get rolling on that.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

Based on the picture in Post #1061 and the picture in Post #1136, I'd say he has a place to work (like a new shop he mentioned a few years ago) and maybe has the engine installed.

But that all could be wishful thinking...

Here she is, boys! Unfortunately, it came with a dirty old house that I'm trying to spiff up. Shouldn't be too long and I'll get to putting that shop together! I'll be dropping that 327 off here soon too.

Thanks, John! Hydraulic clutch is on the top of the completion list.

The pictures don't do it justice. I am one lucky MF! Can't wait to start pushing this truck over the finish line, then blow apart the big fella (The Crummy!)

With that shop just demo the dirty old house, stand up a few walls in the shop and move in! Lots of people do that here in Texas...we call it a barndominium. Another bonus is you will save $$$ on your property taxes, which means more dinero for the fun things in life. Of course if you are a married man, this will be a tough sale and maybe not even possible.

Congratulations on a new fantastic work space.

Re: My '67 Fleetside C10 renew

Great to hear from all you guys! I'm hauling ass on the house, i'm not in this alone.... Rewind three years.

Gonna be all house through the holidays, but I'm gonna try like hell to get organized and get that lift installed. The shop floor is heated but I got one of them infared thermometers and it appears I can "see" the water lines. Wish me luck!

Truck updates soon!!
