I've been paying attention, but did I miss the bottom line of hours and "low"bucks?

Tony it is their somewhere but I could not find it with a quick look through. I would say about $10k for the out of pocket expense and then add $5k for the new motor and trans but it was not needed for the build I just wanted it. Then I would guess in the range of 400 hours from start to finish. It sounds like allot of time but really it is a very fast build for what was done. If you think about it that is only 10 weeks from start to finish.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

I don't think 400hrs is over the top;I've spent over 500hrs on a '72 GMC and the owner did all the chassis and mech work.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

That's a good investment right there. A classic truck w/the modern conveniences & some great documentation of the build process. The right buyer is out there!

I am surprised you haven't sold it yet, I thought it would have been long gone by now. Good luck.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

Nice truck, love the build.

What is the paint code for the BLUE?

The misses and I where looking at paint chips tonight. Thinking baby blue with off white top? Not sure thou.

May be tinted sealed flat paint?

None the less GREAT TRUCK!

Got another vet drive train laying around?

Thanks,

Bill

It is Nason (Dupont line)medium blue single stage. Just a generic fleet color. If you decide you want this color I can dig up the mixing code, just PM me. I thought I had a pic of the can and code in the build around the paint pages but might be wrong.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

Eastwood's part #19016 But I find mine at stores like post tools or harbor frieght tools for much less. Eastwoods is about $25 for 4 and I can find them from time to time for about $10 for 20

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

Thanks Kevin! I had tried searching for panel clamps but it came up with some c clamp style panel clamps. I found them using the parts number so thanks again! I live in the middle of nowhere and the closest city is 50km away(like 30 miles) and its not a very big city so I will be ordering most of my tools and parts through catalogs and such.

Re: LFD's low buck truck build!

Thanks Jim, turned out to be a nice day and one of the larger turn outs in quite awhile.

I liked checking out the Auto Cross course as well, it was a nice change until Air Ride have a motor failure and ended up putting their Nova in the wall

OUCH! I missed that one. That was a tight course, but some of those guys had it down.

Scary that the runoff for the finish line was straight into the DJ booth... backed by a chain link fence and spectators.

Kevin,
This is just an awesome project. Love the truck. But, don't you think you should re-name it to mid to high buck? $15k is a pretty good chunk of change in my books. Now if you had built it to this stage for $5k now that would be low buck. The thing is, you start a project like this you know it's going to cost you way more than budgeted for. Keep up the cool projects

You are almost right on the price. Keep in mind the 15K covered basically a frame off build that covered every aspect getting touched and re-built plus a few extra comforts. The only thing I did not do was the wiring and that was only because it was un-cut and in great shape. In the last 1 1/2 yrs or hard driving, trailer towing and a lot of fun cruising I have almost 16,000 miles with only an alternator problem pocking its head. So is it really low buck for a lot of guys I say yes because if you had this built for you at a shop it would be in the 30-40k range if not more depending on hourly wages.

Now I just ordered a set of bear front rotors and a set of performance on-lines alum dual piston GM calipers to try and get a bit more stopping power for the way I drive I have found the front brakes work great but fade after some fast twisty driving.
