Re: Historical/ This I know
Just keep this thread going and post your sources - pictures would be a nice touch too. I'll do the rest on the side lines. I'll have some large blocks of time coming up in a week as I have a manditiory company imposed furlough coming up on the 13th.
I should have something put together on my web page by July 18th or so.

Re: Historical/ This I know
did you know that the backup lights on the 60-66 fleetside trucks are the same design as the 1954 buick passenger cars?..........also read a magazine article once about a guy who went to work at the chevy truck design studio in 1962 and they were getting ready to start on the new design truck for 1967.anyway he did some redesigning sketches on the 1966 truck body(gave the 64-66 body a new fresh facelift)showed them to his boss and his boss said they are great, but if i show them to upper management we will never get a completely new design truck.he made him throw them in the garbage.i would have loved to saw those sketches.

Re: Historical/ This I know
And here are the backup lights. Would be kind of cool to add the brake lights to our truck instead of the rectangular ones.

Re: Historical/ This I know
My fleetside bed is Frankenstein'd together from a '62 and a '66. From working on the truck I noticed that thru the production run they implemented some cost cutting strategies. The tailgate hardware was bolted on in '62, but by '66 it was spot welded. Also, the support posts inside the bed followed the outer contour in '62 but by '66 were cut straight down. The final difference was the the top rail of the bed curves around into the bed and is nearly 1'' wide in '62; by '66 it is only about 1/4'', saving a substantial amount of metal over the run of truck production, I would imagine.

Re: Historical/ This I know
Aerotruk63,
I've been intrigued by an entry of yours: "The 60-66 Chevrolet/GMC were designed by John Delorean based on Airplane Design. Thus the nickname Aerotrucks." Could you tell me where you found this fact? It sounds pretty interesting and I'd like to read up on it a bit. Anything you can give me would be awesome. Thanks!

Re: Historical/ This I know
In the 1966 year truck, Chevrolet went to a dark fawn(brown) dash in flat finish to reduce glare. The remainder of the interior was medium fawn as in prior year.

Re: Historical/ This I know
while we are on the subject of interior's ol curt.the 60-64 steering wheels and column's were painted white.beginning in 1965 they were painted the interior color (fawn).the 1960-65 steering wheels are the same.the 1966 steering wheel is a one year only design and is the same for custom and standard trucks, except standard trucks had horn button and custom cab had horn ring.

Re: Historical/ This I know
beginning in 1966 on chevrolet trucks as mandated by federal law.all trucks had backup lamps, seat belts, and two speed windshield wipers with washers.some 1960-65 trucks came equipped with these also, but were options you had to buy before 1966.
