Re: Severe cold weather and a white Christmas

Our driveway yesterday, a sheet of ice. SIL decided to stop by which was weird because the roads were so treacherous yesterday. She started to pull in to the driveway, saw it was a skating rink, but it was too late. She did manage to get stuck in the snow bank towards the top though instead of sliding in to our garage door. She got out of her car and fell on her hip and left hand. Still not sure if she broke her wrist or not. Ill find out today.

Re: Severe cold weather and a white Christmas

I'm always colder down here in the draw, when it's still. I'm much better in the wind than the ridges but a still night cold settles deeper, plus the creeks create a heavy dew/frost.

The Laurel and rhododendron are curled up tight and the squirrel tails are tucked tight against their backs. In town I saw a dog frozen to a fire hydrant.

Re: Severe cold weather and a white Christmas

We'll be warming up to 22 here today as well. It's very convenient leaving ice cream out in the truck all night. Can't do that in sunny Southern California . I brought some applewurst from my freezer to a friend yesterday. No need for a cooler, just laid it in the bed. I handed it to him saying it wasn't frozen when I left the house. It was rock hard.

There's frozen water outside that I didn't bring out in a glass. I haven't seen that in years.

I have that same stove.

Wife is wanting a stainless steel one

It will probably turn into a powder coat or paint cure oven

It's broken. The oven doesn't turn off, stuck on max hot. It's been sitting in my front yard for a couple weeks. I'm thinking of moving it next to my car on blocks.

I cut up a downed dead cherry not long ago. Wet and very #2 quality. I'm using that up since I'm home and inside to tend to it. Make room for something better

Sounds like a powder coat oven to me

Wind chill is only 17Ί below this morning and sun is shining. My snow fence worked good and kept the snow off of my driveway. With the wind that strong and living on top of a hill, 90% of the snow blew over into the field across the road. I'm not going to have to plow at all.

Great thinking.
That way you won't be shoveling snow.

Snow fence ..I got to say ,,I never lived where I needed one ,, and didn't think of any one building one .. I do see lots of snow fences along I-84 in eastern Oregon that collect the snow up and keep it off the highways a lot..

Just curious ,,Leon ,does your fence catch plastic bags like the one in Oregon I mentioned does,, LOL

Sunshine and forty above today! It was twenty below yesterday morning.

I pushed back some more snow before it freezes solid again.

Supposed to be freezing rain tonight.

No plastic bags, but I had corn all the way around me this year. This is shortly after I put it up. We had a strong wind out of the West and the corn husks filled it up. I had to clean it out.....

They stopped putting up snow fence around here. It was still in use when I first moved in here. We used to get more snow.

I was out and about today. Boy was it cold just doing typical go into stores stuff. Getting gas is always the worst. Gas stations are all in windy places.

Re: Severe cold weather and a white Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone! I just saw this tread.
We are just coming to the end of the winter storm, so right now it’s-8 with a-23 wind chill. We have had so far 72 hours below zero actual air temperature not wind chill and tomorrow or I should say today (Christmas day) we will continue that trend. The last couple of days we had wind chills in the-30to -53. Monday our air temperature is finally get out of the negatives. So if you all could send us some warm air up here to the north country.
