Re: 1968

Today I finshed the pass side rear fender. It came out real nice. I sanded the k2 primes that was shoot on it a few months ago. Then I shoot some more white primer and I am real satified with the results.

I would have shoot some orange on it if it wasn't for the love bugs here in Florida in September. I tried to shoot orange on the bed sides but now I have to re-do them. Love bugs are a real pain this time of year. If you guys are planning on a trip down here to Florida don't drive your truck. In September and May is a big no no. The love bugs will eat up up paint.

Re: 1968

Today I worked on the other fender (drivers side). It has a lot of work to do untill it is done. But it is coming alone just fine. I hope to shoot some primer on it also tomorrow. But first I need to cut the cross member holes so the exhaust pipes can go thru them. I have put that off long enough.

Re: 1968

I put it off again. The cross member that is.
Why is it that when you make a plan someone always seen to change it? I sand blasted some parts today. I did not want to sand blast today. But what the hey. I did get to finish the drivers side rear fender. It had a little rusty holes in the inter lip of the wheel well. And a lot of pitting so I go it taking care of. Monday I am going to cut the cross member for the exhaust. I hope.

The only way a person could see the holes in the lip was to stick their head in the wheel well. But I knew they were there. So now they are not.

Re: 1968

Today is a good day to paint this month but only one thing. It is 100% humanity like man it is raining for the next two days. And the love bugs are laying low. So I will wait and do more work on the fender.

Re: 1968

Today, I cut one side out for the exhaust on the cross member. It has been raining down here a lot. Maybe tomorrow I will do the other side and then I will post pictures.
There is so much moisture in the air. I could not even sand the fender. The sand paper gummed up when I tried.

Hey, George. it's been a while since I have been on here. Sorry for your troubles. I will pray for you and your friends. Your truck is looking really good. Those crossmember holes are a booger to cut. I heard there was lots of rain down there today. I think I might be in your neck of the woods around Oct. 30th.

Thanks a lot. It is getting better now. I let God handle what I can't. I am gladthat I don't have the drive shaft installed. It makes it a lot easier.

Re: 1968

well. I went to the Dentist and he put me on some amoxicillin for 7 days. It looks like I will have it removied then. So guys it might be a hit and miss with me for another week. But as long as I am not in too much pain I will do what I can on the old girl. It looks like I will not be entering patches in the Christmas parade this year. There is just too much work to be done on her. There is always another year and a another parade.
Thanks Brian for calling me today. Sorry I missed your call I was still at the Dentist.

Re: 1968

George, it's taken me two days on and off of reading to get all the way through your build thread, and what a trip it has been! You've really done some amazing work, and I have really enjoyed all the pictures and details you've posted along the way. Keep up the good work!

I have a love/hate relationship with sandblasting myself. I love the results, hate doing it, and it sounds like from what I've read that you've nearly sandblasted two whole trucks on and off over the duration of the build, you have my respect!

Re: 1968

Today I finished the drivers side rear fender. Shot some white primer on it also. Now it is stored in the mother-in-law cottage untill needed for the fine tuning next month. I finshed cutting the 4x4 hole in the cross member for the exhaust pipe to go thru. I think I will be putting a 4 inch pipe on the cut off spot. 4 inch round and 1 inch long. Brian gave me that idea and I like it. It looks like it will dress up the hole a little and add some support there also. I am thinking about buying a stand alone sand blaster. A small one so I can do small parts. Without getting the blaster and hoses out all the time and account the lost of sand everywhere.
A friend came over the other day to borrow something and gave me a 1972 4x4 running truck. Don't know right now what I am going to do with it. I might use it as a everyday runner and keep patches for week ends. Just a thought.

Here are some small parts that I recieved today. I hope to start rebuilding the vent windows in the morning.

Re: 1968

It's been a while since I've been on here, but, to no surprise, it looks like you're still plugging along at quite a quick pace on Patches, George. Sorry to hear about your friends. Strokes are scary things, and hopefully that works out OK. Death isn't quite as scary as long as you know where you're going, but is still rough on those left behind.

I've only read the last few pages, and it looks like there are quite a few more to catch up on, so I'll check back in when I get a little more time and catch up.

Re: 1968

I tried to build my vent windows todat and I failed. My hands are not as strong as they once was. My hands want let me do the rubber in the frames. So, I have to get my Son over one day and let him do it. He is strong as a bull and has a grip like a vise. He is a EMT so I have to wait untill he has a day off.
