More cutting and in welding patches on my cab

Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel

Very slowly, but surely, this POS will be a truck again

Wew, I feel better now!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I aired up the 63 for the first time in like 6 months and got it up on jack stands.

I also took the hood off in preperation to start installing my porterbuilt 60-66 hood hinges.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Found steel wheels Friday, then that when to hell- guy was sure Toyota wheel was the same thing and we wouldn't have to jack a truck out of the mud for them... the offset is wrong so they wouldn't clear- no problem I go to pull GM wheels by myself. Mud. jack problems, toy wheel would not bolt on, so had to block up truck to try to get jack out... Finally I ended up with 2 GM wheels and 2 toy's (think they will fit camper)

Today started to paint the 2 GM wheels (and 2 ralleys I had), but old paint on them started to lift, guess someone did a crap white paint job sometime. I got a coat on, and will have to sand some bad spots out.

I found out why new wheels cost so much- because they are worth it.

Tonight I ordered tires and exhaust. Hope to have it installed and other stuff done so I can drive to Rust Revival Saturday. This week I will have to, do quickie interior paint to hide old yellow, repair window crank, hook up radio, bleed brakes, clean up some under hood wiring.
Would be nice list- lower front, replace flex fan, paint engine.

I hate sanding, probably my least favorite thing to do besides sandblasting. The hood looks pretty simple until you start sanding it, and quickly discover how many nooks and compound curves and indentations there are. The only thing I found that took more time was the back of the cab.

That right there is exactly why I kept a set of really nice, clean 5 on 5 steelies that came with a set of used tires I bought a while back. I'll have them sandblasted and powder coated to match my paintjob for cuise nights.

I've been there also

Long story made short, myself and a friend had a 8 hour wet sand thrash sesson on my old car, due to a couple "paint flaws"

Started with 600 on the roof, then did the whole car in 1000, 1200, 1500, 2000, and finally 2500

Lots of work, but the paint was absolutely flat when we were done.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Put on my new Rally wheels. They are vision brand, very reasonable. Sorry for the crappy pic, but the back ones are still six lug steel wheels. Fronts are five lug late model disc swap. Saving up for the axle swap.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Glad to hear you're changing to five lug in the rear. After the front disc swap I added rally front wheels and bought what I thought were matching 6 lug rally wheels for the rear. It was an expensive lesson in reading the fine print. The only hubcaps that fit the 6 lug rally wheels were special oversize police style caps from the wheel manufacturer. To me they looked stupid, so I started over and had the axles redrilled.

Dropped it off at the exhaust shop. Waiting for them to call me and tell me to come get it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

It looks like drilling the rear axles is by far the most bucks down solution thus far. I did cheat a little bit. I actually ordered six caps, and screwed the back two on for now. I still have two new caps for the 15x8 wheels for the re drilled axles and drums. You actually have to look pretty close to notice the difference between the wheels now though. Love those stainless screws!

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Passenger side spotlight and new rear springs showed up today. Spent all afternoon tearing down and rebuilding the spotlight. Rear springs will probably have to wait for the weekend.

About 2 years ago I had custom springs made for the rear, reducing load capacity from 1,000 lbs to 400 lbs. Couldn't have been happier, the truck rode like a Buick. After retiring, I started using the truck every week to haul grass and weeds to the dumps. So the bed cover came off, sand bags came out along with the spare tire and jack. All that stuff added up to about 400 lbs, and now the truck rides like a buckboard again which isn't much fun with deteriorating discs. So I ordered up a set of 2.5" lift springs for a Jeep Wrangler. Figuring regular Jeep springs drop the back 4-5", these should drop the rear a couple of inches which I wouldn't mind.

Took the spacers out of my sway bar so I could lay the crossmember again. Ah, I was getting dizzy from all of that thin air up there.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I popped in the starter in the 66, and I found the one that came out of my 65 with a newish harness and a battery cable attached. I put in the battery box I had laying around and some oil and a filter. I acually got to finally check and see if the light and stuff worked and the engine cranked over a bit. Still need to hook up spark plug wires, hoses, and tranny lines. Almost there. It was nice to hear it turn over anyway.

I finally got to talk to someone at the DMV with a brain, (I know right?) and got the information I was looking for. Time to start the tear-down.
