Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

So, I took the opportunity, to make some changes. Had a friend who owned a body shop and he let me do a bunch of the prep work in exchange for some of the upgrades the insurance wouldnt pay for.....

Drivers side rebuilt.

Worked over the new bed a bit....

In the paint booth.

Outside for the first time.

The day I got it all back together and drove it home.

This is after I wetsanded and polished it...

And this is how it looked with the 17s on it just before I wrecked it. Oh, and the cowl hood too.

Nice truck. What happened to it this time? Are you gonna bring it back again?

Was towing my wifes car back from Portland, and there was some road construction going on. they were running everything down to one lane and at the last minute, this lady in a big Dodge Ram goes blowing by me trying to get past me before her lane ended. No problem, I just backed off a bit. Then all of a sudden she realizes that traffic is stopped ahead and climbs on th brakes and comes to a dead stop about 40 yards behind the stopped traffic. It was about 110 degrees out and brand new asphalt, so traction was nil. So I slid into the back of her and took out the cowl hood and rad support, and grille and such. I drove it home and eventually fixed the damage, but just as I was getting it ready to go back on the road we had a cold snap and it popped my freeze plugs. I now have a place to work on it, so hopefully over the spring/summer I can get it back on the road.

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

You've had some rough luck in that thing, but I guess it coulda been worse, especially the driver-side impact.

You still have the Eagle 212s on there? I get tired of mine every so often, and then I'll see them on somebody else's truck and think "Hey, those are pretty sharp."

Right?

I just don't see how this could be possible. I know a guy who put that exact 3-3-2 combo on a truck once. He took it for a drive and was shattering the road reflectors with the LCAs they were so low. He drove right back to the shop and took the LCAs off.

The front spoiler looks to be as low as 4 -5" front drop.

My foot needs to go on a diet. My daily is a 28 mpg Cadillac and with these gas prices I'm still trying to teach my foot how to hypermile it a bit.

Re: How about some pics of 88-98 Trucks

Here is my new purchase. my 1988 GMC Sierra 1500. Originally it was one of the trucks that was converted by Boyd Coddington Hot Rods as a partnership with the GMC truck center in So-cal. It was originally a charcoal gray with a light blue-ish gray interior. The first owner had purchased the truck and had installed all kinds of stereo equipment both in the cab and in the bed. He had added a tonneau cover to hide and protect his big speakers. He had brought the car to many car shows both hot rod shows and stereo system oriented shows. The truck unfortunately didn't get much looks. The owner thought that it may be because of the dark color gray that it wasn't as eye catching as some of the other colors people had been painting their cars during the late 80's. So he decided to paint the truck Mercedes Benz bright white. Then the truck got some looks. after a while I guess the first owner wanted something new to keep up with the times and took all the stereo equipment out of the cab and out of the bed and basically brought it back to stock. Stock for this truck (from Coddingtons shop) meant that it remained lowered (no air bags, no 4 link, it still has leaf springs), the roll pan stayed on the truck, the center line wheels remained on the truck, the billet grill, and all the emblems were also still not present and the 350 v8 remained untouched. He sold it to my mentor and best friend who bought it in 1990 with only 34,000 miles on it. He kept the truck in great shape and even updated it a little bit. Adding a newer stereo, later model mirrors, and later model seats. My buddy decided to sell it to get into a newer truck. So as of last week I bought it as you see it, with 142K miles, for 3k. I get looks in this truck. It is the kind of truck that doesn't look its age. What do you guys think? As for my plans, I want to update the headlights, turn signals, and tail lights, change the whole interior over to all black, and have the bright white resprayed as it is starting to show signs of age. I want to buy a nicer alarm system. Mechanically I really only want to change one thing. I want to put a posi rear end in it for better traction. Although it does catch pretty good with the one legger. Anything I do to this truck is only to update it. I do not want to take away from the originality and the overall CLEAN simple look. I cant help but smile when I see this truck in my drive way. What do you guys think of it? I will post better photos of it's stance and interior later.

Good looking truck and it sounds like you've got some good plans for it. Beyond what you're looking to do, if it were mine, I'd find some different wheels. 4-spoke wheels just look odd to me. Some nice 17 or 18" 5-spoke wheels would set it off nicely.

I would love to find a 73-89 Standard Cab Dually 4x4 or 2x4. Problem is, I wouldnt be able to afford the gas bill on one every week, plus the 1 ton parts prices if something should break.

Tell me about it. It costs me 5 bucks just to start the damn thing. Every time I pick something up in it, it's a 20 dollar bill. Fortunatley I don't drive it every day. I had a stepside that I bought to do work around the house. It was fine, but I wanted a bigger bed. Do I need a 1 ton dually? Absolutely not. But with 73k on the clock, I couldn't resist.
But I always wanted one.

That only leads to scalded tires, and broken parts.

depending on how much boost you use. i can see bald tires but broken parts? that would take a little more than just a turbo.
