Re: Gas Prices?
For whatever reason, the price jumped back up for the weekend.
It was in the mid $3. teens on Wednesday and went to $3.59 by Saturday. The real mystery is the difference between the prices of regular 87 octane and the E-85 stuff. It is usually about 30 cents per gallon cheaper, yesterday it was only 10 cents less?

Re: Gas Prices?
I bought at $3.35 and saw the other places I passed were $3.29. Next time I saw it dropped to $3.21 but where I stopped (last one I passed) was still at $3.25. Now they are $3.21 and the others are $3.19. The higher place used to be the lower one, now it's higher. These are the cheapest places, many others are higher. I think the guy that is higher realized how much more he made by lagging a day on price decreases. It's the only station in that area with plenty of business. I figure he's playing his cards by the game being dealt. At my end the 3-4 cents don't really make any difference. I'm still buying gas there

Re: Gas Prices?
$2.85 for reg and $2.06 for E85.
So do you fill up on the chance the price is headed back up or just put in a few $ worth on the chance the price will go down?

Re: Gas Prices?
I don't know about others, but gas went down and back up twice in about a week. It went back up yesterday to $3.49 from $3.35 and $3.19 before that. Diesel is down to $4.39, only 90 cents more than regular.

Re: Gas Prices?
Just passed a WaWa and Sheetz this morning and gas is up around .10 a gallon from 2 days ago. It is up around .60 a gallon from where it had dropped to. No idea why it's going up again.

Re: Gas Prices?
I noticed the same yesterday, up another dime. I think we're not supposed to ask why, just supposed to pay up.

New Bloomberg piece reports potential for summer shortages on the East Coast HERE
New York Gasoline Shortage Brews on EU's Russia Ban Fallout "The EU ban on Russian oil-product imports starting Feb. 5 will strain the region’s feedstock supplies, limiting how much gasoline the bloc can make for itself or the US East Coast, which increasingly relies on transatlantic imports in the summer."

Re: Gas Prices?
Yup. Ours bumped up again, now $4.899. One more dime and we're lookin' at five bucks. (I won't acknowledge a tenth of a cent, it's just too silly)

Re: Gas Prices?
The current administration has scheduled the release of an additional 26 million barrels of oil from our “strategic” petroleum reserve, which is already at its lowest level since 1983. Just, wow.

Re: Gas Prices?
Steering this away from politics, I just wanted to post the question, does anyone know the actual reason why the price is fluctuating so "frequently"? I know about the affect crude prices and production have. I searched "Why are gas prices fluctuating so frequently" and found no answer. Only why prices fluctuate, which we already know. I didn't look through a lot of pages, but this should be the number one question being asked. I mean I have been buying gas for over 50 years, been through all the changes everyone else has, and this day to day fluctuation is something I have never seen before. I can't be the only once curious about this. All the search results give answers I already know about why prices change, but none answered my actual search asking why so "frequently", as never seen before. I'm seeing prices change every couple/few days. I bought gas Monday at $3.35. The next day it was $3.15-$3.19. Now it is up to $3.25. Three prices in a work week, M-F. That's really odd, and there's no answer? No one else asking?? I have found graphs showing the rises and falls showing lines for crude and retail gas, but only up to 2021 before this rapid characteristic came about. Very strange.

Re: Gas Prices?
I found the same thing, that searches seem to think all you are asking is about high prices, and not volatility specifically.
This is a canadian article but seems to have a lot of good information. https://businesscouncilab.com/work/w...main-that-way/ This snip looks like a reasonable explanation to this question: “When inventories are low, small changes to their levels can have outsized price ramifications. As such, oil traders closely analyze the driving factors that will impact supply-and-demand dynamics. These driving factors are the ‘players’ on Team Supply and Team Demand that oil traders watch closely to predict the how the tug-of-war match will go.” DeahHead and Kustoms may be on the right track about Biden releases of surplus directly causing the volatility.

Re: Gas Prices?
Yeah, turns out I only got 1 page of results, maybe 4 or 5, all answering why fuel prices fluctuate "at all". That's common knowledge. Then it was similar searches, all asking basically the same thing as the answers I already got. And nothing beyond 2021. I was obviously asking about the "current" situations. I guess I have no other option but to form a conspiracy theory < Kinda serious on that, except that's not my thing. I only know something is going on that never has before. It seems all stations change in sync, though, so it's changing on them as frequently. A graph for the past year should look nothing like the years before. More like a cardiograph.
"How much is your gas?" "It's holding steady at $3-$4" Or maybe the answer should be "In the morning or afternoon?"

Re: Gas Prices?
What is now the norm are price movements a dime or more at a time. It used to be gas prices changed by 3 to 5 cents a gallon. Around here it's 10 to 11 cents a gallon changes now.
$2.79 here

Re: Gas Prices?
Well around here is a Lot of Different prices also.
I had to go to the other side of town Friday. The Raceway was$2.99 and the S-Helll across the street was $3.19 This is in a spot that is hard to get to the Raceway from the other side. This is probably the only reason they sell a drop of gas. So, I KEEP driving holding out for my Go To Low Price place. I get to Speedway and $3.04 I have a Rewards card so that evened it back out. Well, Saturday I go back into town for a birthday breakfast for my Momma. Speedway is $2.99 Back a year ago their price would hold low for about a two-week spell.
