Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Okay, I went by the Eagle/Boss wheel warehouse in B'ham today. The regional manager was actually there...They just "cleaned house" and are awaiting the new warehouse manager. He specifically said that the whole line of 338's are being retooled as they don't fit much of anything, not just the 5x5 crowd. They will become available in the proper offset and center bore in "2-3 weeks" per the Regional Manager for the South East. So I would anticipate 4-6 weeks just to be safe.

When they become available I kinda have an in with the incoming warehouse manager and may be able to get a pretty good deal on these...I'll keep everyone posted.

If you get some good part numbers,... please post them.
I will be swapping my 20x8.5's out for the new design. I believe the 20x10's should still work for the rear.

Yes, the 20x10's that you have will work. The new design will have a thicker mounting hat, so the lip will be a bit shallower, so the ones you have will look better...imho.

I will post the correct part #'s as soon as I can. You may want to check with whoever you bought your wheels from and see if they won't handle a warranty exchange for your existing 20x8.5's. If they haven't been mounted they should take care of you.

Cheers All

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Here are a couple of shots of my 18x9.5's on the rear of my '87. The tire is a 295/45r18 Toyo Proxes ST II. Keep in mind I will be doing a 4/5" drop on ol' Bob soon so that monster gap will be history.

If I can help in any way else let me know.

Cheers,

Ed

I have already talked to him,... and he's waiting for a good part number to order two more 20x8.5's. I will be returning my old ones. Also,... for the 67-72 guys,... the rear 20x10's will require a spacer. I believe the 6.25" BS will be too much.
I'm going to try to fit these on my '69 (with the narrow '69 rearend and 5-lug conversion axles) I will probably run a 1" or 1-1/4" spacer.
(After I do some measuring)

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

I was at the Good-Guys Nashville nationals and saw a 65' chevy truck running the auto cross with these wheels. They were 18-8.5/18-9.5 and he told me that he did have a few issues.

At the time I had no idea that they were so wrong....ll I knew was I wanted a set for my 97' x-cab and my 58' shop truck.
Im glad to hear they are reissueing these wheels.

I was then a few weeks later at the Good-Guys columbus and talked with a dealer from Ky. He told me that they never made a 20x10..which we know better. It took me a minute to find the 18's in a 5 by 5 pattern. Im glad to know that they do have them in the 20's and 18's with our bolt pattern.

I must say that when I was in Nashville you couldnt turn your head with out seeing 3 sets on ever kinda car and truck.

I am going to run Boss 338's. 18x8 with 4.5 BS on the front (4.5 BS is all they offer) and 18x9.5 with just over 5" BS (this is also all they offer).... Will I need spacers or anything special for my 72 SWB....

Thanks

Re: Got some new wheels: Boss 338's in 20x10 and 20x8.5

Okay. I spoke to the South East regional manager again this afternoon and he got a rather solid delivery date for the retooled grey 338's of August 18. I asked him to please order multiples sets for me in 18 & 20" in both staggered and extra of the wider for those wanting to run the same width all the way around. Once they are in and the pricing is set I will let everyone know.

Cheers,

Ed

Thanks for the update. And for all the legwork. Do you happen to know about the chrome version? I'm wanting those in 20" with the staggered offsets. Thanks again!

Anyone know for sure how big I can go with my '72 SWB stepside with rear leaf springs?

I love these wheels. But what gets me is that wheels arent cheap. Why can't these manufactorers get up outta chair walk over and slap one on a truck until they work? IMO Boss are the worst

Yeah, actually I talked to the SE regional manager again this morning. He said that the new ETA is the last week in August. Which probably means 2 week of Sept. He did tell me that Boss is opening up the center bore, slightly changing the cap design and thickening up the mounting pad. He said they are being specifically refitted to work on our trucks. Woo Hoo!!!

Does "thickening up the mounting pad" mean the 5.25" backspacing will stay the same,... or change?
