I'm hoping to make it my first long distance trip on the new motor. A mini tub is definitely in the future, gonna want more rubber one day.

This is one of the coolest old school trucks on the forum. It has the right rims, right stance, right color. You gotta enter TOTM when you get it done!

Thanks Bro! I really appreciate that. There are some awesome trucks on this forum, I just wish I could see them all in person. Maybe I'll give it a shot when it's done.

Re: Project. Long Overdue

Ok so I have had this poster in my garage for years and this is one of my all time favorite Top Fuel cars. I am a huge drag racing fan and love the history behind it. So When I started thinking about re-doing my truck I used this car as inspiration. This is the car that "The Snake" started his reign of terror in. I was fortunate to see this car in person a few years ago and it is beautiful. Back in the day the cars were all push started with something and I have seen some old pictures of 67-72 trucks doing this. So I had the idea of what this car would have for a push/Tow rig at the track. Now my truck has always been yellow, bu this car has played a big role in the direction I am going with it. Sorry about the picture quality, but it is a poster. Now only if I can get them to race it again and let me give em' a push!

Re: Project. Long Overdue

Nice inspiration, I dig the 60's drag era too, I'm trying to maintain a 60's vibe, for the direction my truck follows. My motor came with billet ball milled valve covers, super trick but so modern, may try fixing them with an engine turned insert, replace later if it doesn't work.

Yeah the 60's vibe has always been a favorite of mine. I like the striping on your truck.

Thank You Sir! You wouldn't happen to have a nice GMC step tailgate would you? It's the one thing I am having trouble finding. I suppose finding one that's not beat is next to impossible.

Thanks more to come later, mines a 50 footer so the stripes are to detract from the problem areas. One day it will get nice paint, love the yellow.

Thanks. Here's a few cell phone pics of the box and hood. I need to go pick them up this weekend.

Re: Project. Long Overdue

Don "The Snake" Prudhomme for you younger bucks! Had a buddy that ran in the "Vintage Class" with a front engine top fuel. Here is another pic of The Snake's top fuel and a nice shot of a push truck, Chevy of course. It's cool that you are building your truck after a dragster!!!!!

Re: Project. Long Overdue

These are some of the coolest shots of a 72' push truck. Man I would have loved to have been around during this time of drag racing.

Re: Project. Long Overdue

Just a thought. The way I did my breather cover might make a cool idea for your dragster look. Maybe two of these together, top and bottom?

Re: Project. Long Overdue

Almost done with the dyna-mat. Inside all color sanded and polished, new harness installed. I still have a ton of small parts to clean and paint but at least there's some progress.

Re: Project. Long Overdue

I got the wood mock up done, just waiting on the strips so I can mill the wood and then the clear. Vent windows all rebuilt. I spent the last few days cleaning and painting parts and polishing bolts/washers. I guess it's these things that take forever to do.
