Re: 1971 GMC lwb to 1968 chev swb project

Yes, that's one reason I started to visit this site again. I haven't been a regular for a few years but getting ready to install a chevy rear end with trailing arms on the Studey. I knew I'd get some good ideas/inspiration on this site.

Re: 1971 GMC lwb to 1968 chev swb project

Driver's side door rust

All rust cut out

Here I welded inside and outside door repair panels together then cut out piece that I needed and welded it on.

Por 15 painted on inside

Get the door back on then I'm taking the truck to get an estimate to get the front half painted while I fix the box up. One way or another it will be all painted by spring. Still dying to drive it this summer. Been busy again redmodeling the house I think the inside will all be done now and I can get back at truck. As for snow, ya its here about 6 inches but the weather has been warmer than usual. Hope you get all your body work done by spring too. Will yours be painted this spring also?

Re: 1971 GMC lwb to 1968 chev swb project

Here is the passenger's side door painted and installed

As you can see I still need to paint the seat frame, they sure look like an eyesore.

Here is the frame painted now, I couldn't stand it so I painted it right away. Just for curiosity I took the third picture with a 10 megapixel camera, all the rest were 8 megapixel and you can see the difference. Now I see why some phone cameras at 2 megapixel are not as clear.

This is the drivers door painted, I kept these doors white on the inside to match interior and black on everything else that would get black overspray when I paint the truck.

Installed and aligned drivers door.

Nice progress man. I'm lovin' that Lee Storm Rider jacket as a Drop. I still have mine out in my shop for cold days. No one in the States knows about those. At least not where I am.

Good Job on the Truck!

Do you have any shots of the whole truck?

Hold on to your socks when you get them quotes; they'll be rollin up and down quicker than you kin grab 'em! It takes alot of manual labour=time to straighten out an old truck and make it nice.

Hey thanks for the advice, I'm going to get quotes, then I might have more incentive to do more myself but I know I can't get it perfect especially for black paint. I want to do it all just for the pride factor. But if I have it booked for April 1st it will get done for sure by May, I don't think I will have time if I do it all myself, also I have read up quit a bit on the body/painting part but still need more knowledge maybe I can PM you a few questions on how to get started and go from there. Again thanks for the advice.

Great build, you have made some great progress. If you can shoot epoxy primer, you can shoot the final paint. Just take the same precautions, clean, clean, clean. I bet you will be really happy if you just paint it yourself. And its WAY cheaper. Keep up the great progress!

The drive shaft was taken to a machine shop and they cut off 12" in lathe and welded it back up for me.
