Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

Thanks guys! No updates yet. I'm getting ready to swap out the rack to power and I'm gonna put drop spindles on the front to get it lay out the rest of the way. I will be sure to post pics when I make some progress.

You didn't like the manual rack with the Dropmember?

I love the way it feels on the highway but with a big block and 255 tires its a chore to move in parking lots. I have driven one with manual rack, small block and a 225 tire and it steers a lot nicer. I'm going to try to reduce the pressure on the pump to get rid of the twitchy feel with the power rack so I have the best of both worlds.

These are only for KRC pumps but some of the other vendors sell different sizes for the more common pumps. The are basically fittings with different size holes for the pressure side of the pump.

http://www.krcpower.com/flowvalves.html

This is from detroit speed I'm not sure if some of the site supporters have them available also but its for the more common gm pumps.

I have a different question. I visited the RPM web site and didn't see a show schedule or anything about if you have a open house.
I am jealous of your dream job.

Thanks! It's a lot of hard work and long hours but it's rewarding. The shows list should be up soon. We do most of the good guys shows on the east coast and some in the midwest. As far as an open house we usually don't have one but if you are ever in town stop by, we will be more than happy to show you around. On a side note your dually looks a lot like our old shop dually but I know it's not. This pic is when we blew the first motor on the way home from charlotte hauling a 48' trailer.

Not much to update. I'm in the middle of swapping to power steering thats about it.

On a side note I'm kicking myself for missing your suburban... that would've been a perfect start for me.

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

Since I haven't had much info to share lately here's a few things I had to switch out when going from manual to power steering with the dropmember.

Rack:
pretty obvious but I used a power, quick ratio out of a 90 mustang GT
Steering Joint:
3/4-36 spline ... manual rack is 9/16-18 spline
Rack fittings:
14mm-1.5 O-ring to 6AN
16mm-1.5 O-ring to 6AN
Link to fittings from speedway motors: http://www.speedwaymotors.com/AN6-Fi...nion,7489.html
Lines:
Pressure side has to be high pressure.. either 6AN teflon or a crimp style hydraulic hose
Return side can be a standard 6AN or rubber hose
Pump:
I used the stock pump from the truck big block set up with the remote resivore.
I also got a pressure reducer valve to slow down the flow from the GM pump to the ford rack. This takes away the twitchy feeling that you sometimes get with this combo.

I will post up some pics when I get it all together and it should explain my ramblings a little better.

Re: 71 c10 Dropmembered Driver

One thing to look out for... just confirm that the ports on the rack are in deed metric. The 79-93 rack housing should be a standard thread. The metric fitting will screw in, but won't seat properly on the pressure side.

Thanks Nate. I've been going back and forth between the standard and metric but none of the standard fittings seemed to fit just right. I think the quick ratio racks were AGR so maybe the threads are different than the standard.

I'm probably going to find out the hard way I'm wrong but I will let you know how it works out.

I'm not sure which crossmember you are talking about but I have the porterbuilt carrier bearing / trailing arm crossmember and the exhaust runs through it and dumps before the rearend. I'm also running a 2 piece driveshaft and it saves from having to do a driveshaft tunnel through the cab.
