Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

Well, we have been busy this week refreshing some of the old parts from the truck. We also decided that the paint on top the dash was not up to par either..so..... we did something about that. We are also making progress on the engine. More measuring than Jon thought he would EVER do !!!!! But worth every second.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

Got the new seat cover today. Unbolted the seat frames and repaired the the lower frame, had a couple springs broken, then powerwashed it and baked it in the paint booth. Beadblasted the tracks, and painted them up. Lots to do while waiting to get the engine done.

Yes, it took me about 4 hrs by myself to do that. It will be better than new, but we aren't going NOS with everything. We want to drive and use it. Also, it's kind of nice to use some of the old stuff along with new stuff.

It's getting closer. Jon was busy in the engine shop measuring his engine parts. It won't be too much longer....

Man that looks awesome! Can you give some advice or tips on installing the rubber with the trim in it? I usually pay a guy I know to do it, but i might try it myself on the next one.

Ryan, I just asked a friend who is a glass man the same question. He assured me that it's a two person job: one guy pushes on and guides the glass from the outside, the other pulls the string (string method) to seat the gasket from the inside.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

I can pull the window in, but I'm really nervous about the trim. Don't you install the trim after the window and gasket are installed? Or do you install the trim in the gasket and then install it all together? I always thought the trim helps lock the gasket in place but on these IDK.

The back window was pretty easy. The stainless goes in the rubber first, then install the rubber on the glass starting at the bottom, then work your way across the top. I will say that the back window went in real easy. I roped it and used window cleaner to make it easy to install. Again, start from the bottom inside the cab while someone holds the window in place from the outside while pressing down, then get your lower corners in and work your way to the top middle. Pop it with your open hand to set...

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

More of the little things done today. Cleaned the headers for re-paint, sanded and painted the seat frames, primed up the valve covers, oil pan and timing cover, wire wheeled the seat cover wires...the bed is not as full as it once was either. And we got some aftermarket front wheel wells. They will be test fit and then modified if needed.

Great work on the rebuild! I am glad to see other people not afraid to tackle some rust on a project.

Looking good! Man the dash looks great now! Thanks for the tips on installing the rubbers with trim. Although, you make it sound too easy.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

Thanks guys !!!! As I stated before, this truck will be driven by Jon. And we've used a nice mix of replacement parts and old repaired/restored parts on this build. So if something gets f'd up... no big deal..repair it again and move on. We are getting the lower seat cushion re-padded and I took the back cover off so we can do the same to that cushion. I wasn't happy with how the new cover looked loose.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

More pix. Got the lower seat cushion back from Marquarts. Jon and I installed the very warm seat cover. Fits like a glove. Test fit the right wfront wheel well.... not too bad, just a few holes modified.
