Those are for helper springs. You don't have them. You can see one installed in this pic. Goes from that bracket -- bends down and connects to the axle. For heavy duty hauling.

Thank you for the information. That is the stuff I love to learn because I had no clue. I was thinking it was maybe involved with the spare tire or an original piece for a trailering package or even the exhaust.

Well some good news is the air compressor came back to life and a second coat of high build will get shot on the bed tonight but I wasn't able to get over there to get it blocked. The paint dude said it appears to be pretty good with a bright light and naked eye.....I am hoping!

Thanks man!! Ive had this truck for many many years..it has taken alot of patience to get to this point. It still wont be perfect, but we will have a blast in it!!

I received my new tail light trim and new front bumper bolts from LMC today. The only thing left for the bed is to get new bulbs for the lights and figure out what to do about the lettering on the tail gate....hand paint it or find some decals....hmmmm.

Got to block the first coat of high build primer tonight with 220 and then got another thick coat shot on it. I will pick up some 400 and 600 grit tomorrow to block the latest coat. We aren't getting it perfect but we fixed a few things and it will be ready for paint tomorrow. Bed should be painted by Sunday night. Then we will get it wet sanded early next week.

Got the visors and door panels cleaned up. I used hot water and dawn dish soap to clean and it worked really good. No "chemicals" required, lol.

I did have enough paint left to paint one of the visors black and I will order more tomorrow.

The door panels seem to look discolored even though they were supposedly new but were sitting in a barn for awhile. I may respray those as well. They are 1972 panels so they are hard plastic.

Last night was my first time using 400 & 600 grit sand paper to knock down high build primer. What a nightmare. It would gum up the paper in seconds. Next time will be wet sanding as i was told it would eliminate my headaches. And advice or tools that could make it better?

Eddie,
I wouldn't try to sanding high build with that fine paper starting off.
I would start with 240-320 grit dry sandpaper. (the yellow stuff from 3M or Norton). Some guys start with 180 grit. Make sure you use some guide coat during this phase. It will show all the low spots.
Once it's flat, (it may take more than two coats of high build). Then switch to 400 grit (wet use plenty of water/ keep your paper clean, no sand or dirt particles.) This will
show up in your paint after it shrinks as scratches.

Last, use the 600 grit wet. After that, just seal or go right to paint.

The biggest update I have is I found some parts that I had ordered over a year ago and I got the new bed bolt kit in the mail....to much work to make any progress on finishing this thing...ugh.

Well the plans for today is to work on the interior. I would like to get the other visor done and figure out if I am going to paint the interior of the cab or leave it all original color. hmmmmm....the questions we face...lol.

Need some help. I have removed both original rods from the visors and I cannot get the new rods from LMC to go all the way in. The old rods slide right back in. I even put dish soap on the new rods and it didn't help one bit. I am stuck with what to do, any advice would be great.

I got the text tonight that "come hell or high water, my bed will be blue tomorrow!" He is so ready to have it out of his garage. Now, we have to get the cab/doghouse over there. I guess half is better then none at this point, lol.

Send them back and quit buying from lmc. Best advice I have. :/ the only good thing I've gotten from them was a blazer tank. Rest has all been junk unfortunately.

So excited for you! Paint is a great feeling. Can't wait until I'm close. I'm still at frame/ suspension and moving slower than a snail. Get some pics up buddy!

I havent heard from him today so I am hoping it got shot!! If I was to truly "restore" the truck, I wouldnt even be close to this point. I would never have finished it so I am doing a 'quick restore' job and making it look good so I dont worry about driving it and scratching it up....one day I hope to have a frame off beauty!!

Here is the pics of the frame that was finished getting painted today. I like the way it turned out. I didnt put all the effort to smooth out the frame, just clean up the rust and coat it with rustoleum. This has 3 coats of gloss black on it.

The paint dude sent me a pic showing he has gotten the heat installed in the garage. Now we dont have to wait for the temp outside to come up.
