Cab looks like a good start and looks like you're honing in on your list.

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

Thanks. I'm happy with it. One thing I do have trouble with is that the doors are 71. Will my 72 door panels fit with our to much modification? I know there is an extra hole for the vent window. But is there one for panel also? I havent had time to pull the panels.

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

yes, the 72 panels will fit...you just will need the 72 window and door regulators.

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

I that a couple of those.

It's kind of funny to, my 69 wrecker, and the 67 I bought for parts, both have 72 drivers doors with the little vent window hole. Guess drivers doors are replaced often in Maine. Lol

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

I through your progress on your truck, nice job so far. Luckily you didn't get it running and drive it around, it almost looks like either someone started and never finished but they put in a few bolts and threw it together to sell it off? I think it will turn out pretty nice though.
I haven't even pulled mine apart until I find a cab for it but that is all that needs to be replaced. Surprisingly it is in good shape all around except for the cab, partial resto but incomplete. We should get in contact to see what parts we have and I know of parts from a contact around Bangor. Thanks

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

Nice truck looks like a hard to find truck I do agree on your front end parts I used master parts on mine from o Reilly autoparts the way I look at it if u grease them regularly they will last just as long after reading ur build my truck didn't have near as much rust in as urs but it the different areas we are in but I still like alot on mine nice progress I got to take mine back apart to frame again to undercoat bed and cab and finish brake lines

You can tell the frame was tampered with because the frame looks to me to have been grinded. Great lookin truck though

Frame was shortened by previous owner. As you can see its now plated for strength.

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

Rivets.

I'm going to start the reassembly once the 70 is stripped out, should i remove the rivets and go to Grade 8 bolts for the leaf spring mounts where they attach to the frame? I'm going to use new Grade 8 for the front frame to front end section, and some new Grade 8 long bolts for the leaf springs. and use some good grade 5 for my auto crossmember.

The rivets look good, just wondering if i should grind them out and change them?

Re: Meet Project Red, White, and Blue

Got the 70 GMC springs apart last night, they are 1 less leaf than my 72, but they are in beautiful texas shape. So if i can find new bushings i'll be good to go.
