Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

Getting caught up on your build. I thought I had my hands full. You've got 4 doors to contend with. Me only 2.
One question about those doors..... On the doors I stretched one turned out great. The other not so great.
Are you planning on re-skinning any of the doors? Brand new sheet metal made to fit the door.

Awesome build.

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

I hope I don't have to re-skin the rears. When I dig them back out I will take pictures of the skins. I only have the skins tacked because I will line them up once the doors are hung. Getting the inner sections of the doors to line up has been a challenge on both of these, and the one for my suburban. I totally hacked my burb door. But it is fixable, so I learned my lesson on mine first.

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

New parts!! So y'all saw the damage to the 14 bolt we are using. After calling dozens of junk yards looking for 14 bolt parts (which no one is willing to dissect a perfectly good rear end surprise surprise) I finally figured out what they were and found them brand new for just under 100 a piece. Can't complain about that. After the repairs I still underpaid for this rear end.

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

So last night I was working on getting the left header tied in and while I was checking square I was coming up short which is where I found I was short 3/16" on the passenger side so I stopped here.

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

When I was putting Bompensteins cab sections together I ran into similar problems.
I ended up making a cart and bolted it down, square.
I was amazed at how much that helped keep things from moving.
Nice to see your getting on it.

BigJeff426 working on some of the b pillar pieces.
Also after looking at the upper hinge area I can see why the upper hinge has to drop.

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

My makeshift rack made the job real easy. It isn't quite as mobile as I was hoping but it will work great to install the new body. I can also adjust it into a stand for whatever which will be nice to get things up off the ground to work on them

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

Well since you got that far i should chug some coffee down and get back to the cab! I welded in all the b-pillar pieces you made, and have been way too busy with baby projects and chores to stop to take pictures. I did finish this up at 11 last night and that was the last one on my list!

Re: Crewcab "the rolling resume build"

Subscribed. I have really wanted to do this so the whole family can ride with me and the wife wouldn't have to follow me in her car whenever we move. I may get the chance to once they're all growed up and won't need to anymore...

You guys are doing great work. Glad you all got rid of the 6.2 Diesel since I just bought it to replace my grenaded 454.

You know everyone says the 6.2/6.5 are junk. But you cant find one for cheap anymore. You didn't happen to show up in a 5 series BMW to pick it up like the guy who bought the tranny did you?
