Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

well today I made a trip to the sw auto paint store....they confirmed my fears on the primer fiasco....its got to come off....dagnabit....the counter guy there was very knowledgeable on what needed done....he also drained my bank account while I was there...so with a bunch of new supplies, its back to the blaster and waiting on some decent weather..

I've had good luck with Sherwin Williams products. Not cheap but worth it IMO.

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

I had several people recommend sherwin williams....I never even went to the ppg store but was told they deal more with bc/cc and costs even more....im going with ss paint.....I've had good results with cheaper paint so the sw paint is a big step up for me....

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

thanks Big.... it wasn't really all that hard to build...I did have to do a little machining work on the turrets though....other than that its just cut and weld

You’ve been busy Greg with all the pieces in primer, the rotisserie and the parts coming in. Looks good!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

thanks Doug. ...very busy...just doesn't seem like anything is getting accomplished.
...when I got the bed reblasted I told them not to blast the underside because i had lizard skinned it. ...from the previous blast when I had (wrong) primed the bed and then sprayed the underside with lizardskin....and at the time I talked to lizardskin and they said it should be ok...in the meantime the bed has been on sawhorses in my buddies shop and i havnt seen the underside in good light...
after I got the bed back from the blaster and on the rotisserie and flipped over out in the sunlight I am now seeing rust coming thru the lizardskin...its been indoors and has had no direct water contact other than maybe some humidity...so now i think its going back to the blaster to do the underside......seems like I can't win...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

getting ready to mock up the mounts for the power steering box and thought I'd go ahead and reinforce the frame rails...for some unknown reason they narrowed the frame rails down to 1in wide on the top side over the axle and right where the motor mounts will be....
some 1/4×2 flat bar did the trick once I hammered it around to fit the frame contour.....
now I got to figure how to mount the steering box.....the IH frame is 7in wider than the gearbox donor frame...so itll need recessed into the frame a little.....

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

carried the frame and all the attached brackets to the blasters today...so while I'm waiting on that I worked on project mini-me....got the body sandblasted and primed...even had to do some "mini" body work on the cab...also shortened the bed...and in my sleep deprived mind i cut the rear bed section on the wrong mark so its 1/4" shorter than I meant...if it looks to bad short ill just get another bed and redo it...still have to shorten the frame...then it'll go to (mini paint jail)...haha
