Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

Those are great documents to have. Tarps are a double edged sword. They keep the heavy rain and snow off but will chaf the paint in the wind. If you keep them on when it is dry overnight condensation forms on the inside between the tarp and metal, then the moisture runs down into the cracks defeating the purpose of the cover. Around here they break down really fast from the UV too.

They're pretty slick.
I wish I had a set to go with my truck.
Just remember the truck itself should be the focus.

Schrum, That's a good idea having your mom see the truck as it is now. After you get get done with it, it will never be the same and she won't even recognize it.

Doesn't that make this truck your grandfathers truck? Was it handed down to him by his dad or did he buy it new?

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

I agree with Liz ,get the blocks off the truck ,a gust of wind could do lots of damage there .Find some rope or bungy straps to hold it in place rather than blocks .

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

It looks like something is sitting on one of the kick panels, looks like the passenger one. the rounded side goes down, straight runs along the door jamb and curved around the side vent outlet. Peice sitting on top might be the jack holder, and there looks like one end of an arm rest.

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

if you are talking about the part that is sitting on the kick panel -it is the mount for the original jack.
which goes on the drivers side behind the seat in the curved area of the cab- on the bottom - the mount seems to be missinf the hold down spring - but i imagine you can find one somewhere .

Re: Found my Great-Grandfathers 1959 GMC Apache

A tarp is a horrible thing to cover a vehicle with. It doesn't breath and retains moisture, so when water evaporates from the ground it gets caught underneath the tarp fostering a great rust condition. It's better to leave it uncovered so the moisture can evaporate. The Army learned the hard way with that, ask me how I know. Buy a breathable waterproof car cover if you need it safe from the elements.
