Hey thanks for the advice, I'm going to get quotes, then I might have more incentive to do more myself but I know I can't get it perfect especially for black paint. I want to do it all just for the pride factor. But if I have it booked for April 1st it will get done for sure by May, I don't think I will have time if I do it all myself, also I have read up quit a bit on the body/painting part but still need more knowledge maybe I can PM you a few questions on how to get started and go from there. Again thanks for the advice.

Great build, you have made some great progress. If you can shoot epoxy primer, you can shoot the final paint. Just take the same precautions, clean, clean, clean. I bet you will be really happy if you just paint it yourself. And its WAY cheaper. Keep up the great progress!

The drive shaft was taken to a machine shop and they cut off 12" in lathe and welded it back up for me.

is yours a two piece? if so what one did they shorten? wonder if a guy could find a one piece drive shaft from a newer short box and make it work

No it was just a one piece driveshaft. I'm sure you can, I think driveshafts up to 1998 will work.

Re: 1971 GMC lwb to 1968 chev swb project

thanks i'll have to check into that, i laughed to myself as im doing the opposit of you my truck is a 67 gmc and im putting a 71-72 chev front clip

some had already redone this truck in the 80's or early 90's i think and they put a 71 gmc front clip on it, possinly put the body on a different frame or updated the suspension as its all 5 lug and disc brakes on the front

Wire brushed the wheel wells, bottom of floor, and inside of box sides then painted with por 15, Sorry for the picture but it is too black to show up no matter how many I took.

Painted the back of cab and front of box so it can be put back on truck to start sanding/body work on the whole truck.

Thanks I tried doing everything myself, some builds are of higher quality and some lower but to each their own.

Right there with ya! So much more satisfying doing it yourself. Take the time to do it right and it turns out great. Nice work.

Re: 1971 GMC lwb to 1968 chev swb project

Thanks for the comments, I am still working away one part at a time. I put an ipod connection in my radio, and new original speaker now that I can drive it again. This allows to either play the radio or Ipod through original speaker and use volume control on radio. All the info to do this is in the truck audio forum on this site, very simple 1 hour job, and it only cost $10. It sure was nice to take it out on the road again as I now have the box back on.

Try and get a build thread started, you will glad you have everything documented to show your progress and all the work you have done.
