Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
Yes, those cattle guard bars were quite popular. Several brands were available. Smash-hit was a popular brand. The one you have pictured is the same one I have, the Safe Guard out of Fort Worth, Texas.

Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
I recognized those right off! Those bumps in the water in the last picture are cypress "knees". They are popular with wood carvers, and mostly I see them made as a Father Christmas figure. I have one that I have yet to carve.

Yes, I believe I read something about how they flared out to help steady the trees roots system in the mud ?

Re: Let’s see where the wind blows me
Given the winds those things see when a hurricane blows through, spreading out some roots seems like a good idea.

It is really nice here right now, but don't worry I'm sure it won't last too long. I'm getting my campsite next door pretty well cleared out, but I still need to get somebody with a backhoe or something to cut down the access off the country road. Some years ago the county grader gouged it out so there is about a two foot bank jumping up into the driveway

Did you have to turn in your pocket knife before entering?
