I made a little progress today. I got the frame stripped and painted and I got the firewall stripped and primed. I think I am going to paint the firewall with spray on sound deadening or something that will provide sound deadening qualities. The diesel trucks came with a coating that looked a lot like undercoating on the entire cowl area. The CUCV's didn't come with anything (just like these trucks) and it sounds like the diesel is in the cab with you. I'm going to dynamat the inside of the firewall and floor as well. I pulled the engines mounts off of a V6 parts truck, and a big block parts truck so I when I put the engine on I can use the stands that will work best. I should have the engine in within the week in all goes well.

THE BIG GREEN BEAST IS IN!!! -sorta

I about three stabs and several frame mount changes I FINALLY got it to fit. I ended up having to use the frame mounts off of a '69 big block to make it bolt in. The manifolds hit on the small block mounts, and the V6 mounts weren't even close. The other issues are that the crossover pipe is going to hit the transmission crossmember and *I think* I'm going to have run the down pipe outside of the frame rail in the under hood area. I doesn't look like there is going to be enough room to do it otherwise, but I'll know for sure tomorrow. Either way, its not a big deal because I have guy that is good with exhaust, and he is high on this project. He told me to just bring it up there, and it will leave with exhaust. I can't wait to see with inner fenders and everything around it. It looks huge in there! It still has to come back out so I can paint the frame mounts and bellhousing, and put the rest of the bolts in the manifolds, but the hard part is done.

It definitely looks like you're gonna have to run the exhaust outside the frame

Yes, it still has the 4 speed crossmember, but after thinking about last night I may build another one. That is what is causing all the exhaust problems, especially with crossover pipe.

Well just a thought, but seeing as how it just so happens that the stock cross member is being such a pain in the hinie, and it just so happens that a NV4500 just so happens to have a rear mount, and you just so happen to know a guy who has already done this swap, who just so happens to have the dimensions, who just so happens to have everything including the piece of steel, to make you a custom cross member to mount the NV4500, that just so happens to have already tested the install on his own C-30 with great results. Who would build it for you if you were wiling to pick up the shipping.

Just a thought, yes I know im a bad influence!

Hey man, thanks for offer! I'll take you up on that! I have been thinking about either a NV4500 ot a Gear Vendors OD for the NP435. It looks I can buy a NV4500 cheaper than the GV, and know they are good trannys. Did you have to go with a hyd clutch set-up?

I got the Warpspeed crossover pipe in today. I was going with a factory 6.5TD pipe, but I read that they were double walled, and some crimped really badly on the inside. So I dropped a golf ball in the (supposed) 2" pipe and it wouldn't go all the way through. The Warpspeed is a 2.5" mandrel bend pipe and the golf ball flies through it. I'm glad I discovered this, because a $60 part could have really robbed some power and economy from the engine. I'm going to buy Warpspeed's 4" exhaust also to help it breathe even more.

No, Advance Adapters makes a bellhousing, it was like 450.00 it came with the fork as well, I had to order a different throw out bearing because the one they supplied was wrong, as well check their pilot shaft bushing, mine was the wrong diameter.

After the hurricane gets done reaking havoc on my little town here I will get her burnt together for you. It will be made from 2"x4" .250 wall box tubing. should hold together nicely. I have a chunk left over from when I made mine I am going to give you. It should be as simple as getting it squared up in your frame, drilling 4 holes through the frame and cross member, and stuffing bolts in them. your transmission location has not been moved from stock has it?

Sounds great! I hope ya'll fare the Hurricane OK. My transmission is in the same location as BBC truck, so it should be the same.

NIce!! looks like you have progressed better than I on your 6.5. Makes me sick that I sold my big block towers for $75 that came with my truck, so that I could finance parts for the 350. I've spent more than $75 of my own time making the 73+ towers work on my 67 frame. You win some and loose some.

Thanks! I appreciate the heads up on the SBC mounts. I'll post better pics when I get it back in, but the BBC mounts put raise it enough that the heatshields and would actually fit. I have the studded manifold bolts, and they are nearly an inch away from the frame. How the 67-71 mount holds? - that may be another story. We'll see...

This truck came with a 292 which places the crossmember 3" further back than a BBC/SBC truck. I was going to grind out the rivets and move it, but my crossover would not fit without being modified and hanging really low. I thought it about, and decided to build some mount extensions to the bellhousing. I bolted and welded a piece of 6" .500" thick HRS to the mounting point and slotted the piece for an inch of adjustment either way. I was afraid that just bolted it would eventually allow it to move with the torque and vibration of the diesel. I bolted them down and got them straight, and heated up the bellhousing and welded the piecews to it with a nickel rod. It turned out great, and I know its going anywhere!!

No, the motor mounts are in the same location as any BBC or SBC. The problem is that the transmission crossmember is 3 inches further back from the factory of the L6 trucks with a manual tranny. I have measured all my 1 tons and the ones with V8 and V6's have the transmission crossmember in the same location, but my 2 L6 trucks have it riveted in a different set of holes, 3 inches further back. I will have to use the shifter hump out of a V6 truck. The shifters are even longer in the V6/V8 trucks than in the L6 trucks. I never noticed it until I started putting this engine in.
