Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Got some pics of the front today (along with some others). Whole truck has been polished now so looks even shinier. One step back though.. As they tried to install the front windshield, it broke. Doh! Here's some more pics. Tomorrow, should hopefully have the hood on (really hopefully)

Dude, that truck looks Great! Sorry to hear they broke the windshield. I have broken 2 in one day before. sometimes they can be a beotch to get installed.
I learned to not try to reuse the old gasket. It's still easy to crack them around the corners.

Don't sweat the hood. You'll probably want to pull the whole front clip to install the engine and tranny anyway?

Ouch! I sure hope the second one goes in without issue.

You may be right, but I hope not. Right now, we don't plan to put both in from the top. Just the engine will drop in through the bay and the transmission will meet up from underneath...in theory. We'll see when the day comes. Can't get here soon enough...

How hard was the front clip to get back on after it was welded solid? Truck looks killer and I love blue trucks your ranks up there as one of my favorties..

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Hey guys. Ran into a major problem with hood fitment. Anyone in the NW Arkansas area have an original 67-68 hood we can try test fitting to ours to see if the problem is the repop hood we got from H&H?

Mike, I really appreciate that! I may very well take you up on that. We're still trying to figure out exactly what the best option at this point it. Is your hood in Siloam or Gravette?

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Well, we found an original hood about 10 minutes from the body shop. It fit better but didn't entirely fix our issue. Thanks for offering yours up Mike! People like you on this board show why this community is so great!!

The body shop wants to try hinges next. So, does anyone local have any hinges I could borrow to test? This is the body man's last grasp. I don't want to spend $150 for new ones only to find out its not the hinges either.

If this doesn't work, we're lined up to have our hood custom fabricated to fit our truck. And they can't do it till September. Argh!!

I'll post some more pics in a bit. I've got some showing the issues as well as some with the cowl and tailgate installed.

And the troublesome hood. The first pic shows the hood open, the only position that works well. The second shows the gap and height difference on the worst side.

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Did they try to see how the how fit without the springs on? If not- take the springs off and check the body lines then it might need a couple spacers and some tweeking. If it works better with out the springs try swapping the springs left to right and right to left. I was running one spring on my hood to get closed good.. GET-R-DUN,,,, I wanna see that sick twisted monster on the street,,,,But dont tell anyinr that Im so jealous!!!!!

I appreciate the tips!!! And thanks for the compliments!!!

I believe they tried without the springs and it still wouldn't let it go all the way down. They ended up boring out the hinge mounting holes to allow the hinges to tilt further forward. We got closer, but still didn't get there.

They tried a different hood and said its even closer, but not where we want to be. A fellow board member (67cheby) loaned me his factory original hinges for a last chance effort. If that fails, the hood is going to get custom fit. This has to be done by a custom fab shop. Basically, they said they drill out the rivets, shape it and re spot weld it. Then it has to be repainted. At least it will fit right afterward.

Here's a better pic showing where some of the fitment issues.

Doesn't seem to be. They removed the back ones to be sure and said they gained a little.

Thanks for the tips and ideas!!

Re: Project Where'd The Money Go

Sorry to hear about the fitment issues with the hood. It sucks that the paint looks so awesome, yet the fitment sucks. I have never used an aftermarket hood for one these trucks. I have nothing but bad things about the repop hinges though. I sure hope you get it worked out without have to go with a custom hood.

Thanks, Mike. We should know something this week. Will update the build as soon as we figure out the direction we are going. So close to getting it home and starting to build it back up.

Hey thanks, man! I'm glad you enjoyed looking through it. It's been quite a process so far, that's for sure.

It's either going to be coming home Friday morning or going to another custom fabricator to get the hood shaped. We should know more tomorrow and will update the build thread.
