Thumbs up Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Thanks so much for doing this build. It makes me want to go work on my 67 1/2 ton pickup. I want to do alot of the stuff you have done on your truck. I want to get a 4x4 one day. I am going on a mission on March 14th. So maybe when i get back i'll be able to get one. Thanks again for your awesome work on your truck it inspires us young guys.
By the way how do you tell the difference between a TH350 and TH400?

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

I cant help you on that I.D.I never have owned a TH400 but you can tell them apart by looking,I just dont know what the difference is.I have wanted a original 67-72 4x4 for about 4 years.I had a 71 c/10 and I wanted to convert it to 4x4,about 3 weeks later I found the 69 4x4 dirt cheap...I started restoring it,then came across this 4x4.I really didnt need it,but couldnt let it get destroyed and for the price,it could sit in my yard till I was ready to work on it...And now several months later it looks 100% better then when it started.I cant even imagine what I will have it looking like in the end.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Well, the rear axle is almost done.I still have to install the axle shafts and do the brakes but other then that its done.Supposed to get my rims this week.Front axle is waiting on 2 seals then it goes together. Picking up the tranny tomorrow.Plans are to have tranny and t case mounted in chassis this week and go junkyardin next saturday, bring home some goodies for the truck, and others to re sell for project money.May work on the motor some too.I seem to be picking up speed on the project again.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

The rear end is sitting on its wheels and tires again...finally.The front is almost done,I need to install a few bearings and put on the lockouts then the front is done. The worse part yet I have done is over.I am glad,I hate the precise work that has to be done. The transmission is back in the shop too, will probably put it in this week

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Dustin, I pulled off my TC skid plate guard today and was happy to see that the rust was in the spacer, not frame or skid palte cross member... First good news on rust that I have had..... Who are you using for all your bushings (T-case, tranny, motor mounts etc...) I know that your new springs will have them but am looking into a full frame package if possible. I finally got those dang rear springs off, torches rule!

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Thats good, you got off lucky The t case bushings(one that bolts to frame directly on passenger side frame to t case) came from LMC.The transmission/t case mounts that mount on the crossmember were good as they came with the t case and had been recently replaced.Motor mounts...havent got any yet,Im along way away from that point...lol.
The bushings for the springs I got with the shackel assembly came from LMC.I think they sell complete spring bushing kits

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

looks like they have the steel inserts in the lug area like mine too.... Right now mine are mounted to two sets of axles that are rolling aimlessly around the shop! I gave away my old tires a little too soon so hopefully I don't ding mine up! lookin good!

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Ok,test fitted the rims on the axle, they look good on there. They are a little dirty thoughHere is some pics of the rims on the truck, the front and rear diffs finished ( a certain shortbed 4x4 owner still has this to look forward too ) and the rebuilt tranny that was done for free.I need to look for some open center caps for the front,I have some, but they arent the greatest...

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Today...well I packed the wheel bearings w/ grease and polished up the rims.Tomorrow I might finish the front end then saturday its off to the junkyard to look for goodies......Once the chassis is done its going into storage so I can alternate between the body, motor, and workin on the blazer Im buying,or work on the 69.It needs some work...and some 3/4 ton axles and my new rear springs for it put in...Im not giving up,just slowing down abit while I wait on a motor, which is the only thing really holding me back...

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Well...I need a life....Workin on my truck on Friday night
But...I did happen to get the rear crossmember I fixed bolted in and also bolted on the bed brackets to the frame.I plan to install the rear diff cover and fill it up w/ oil and finish the front axle and do the same. The front just needs the brakes done and the lockouts installed. If I feel wide and awake after all this the new shocks will be going on too....

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Didnt make it to the junkyard cause of another storm bringing ice and snow up there.I have just been hammered with storms, wind, thunder, and lots of rain here.So naturally I went to the shop....I did alot today,I finished the axles completely and installed the front rotors, brake parts, ect and installed the new WARN lockouts.Going to try to get the shocks on today too.I also installed the new drag link assembly.Chassis part of the build is almost done, still need to do the rear brakes and run brake lines.Might to that next week...atleast the truck rolls again.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Well,I just locked the shop after finishing up the rear brakes.I made the decision not to run a e brake so the e brake cables and brackets, ect were removed.I might put the cab and bed on tomorrow.I need to so the springs will settle so I can get the rear shocks on

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"

Half of the componets werent there when I bought the truck, that was part of the decision not to use them.I see alot of people asking about used ones,I take it they arent re-made in the aftermarket?

Hard to find SWB w/leafs I know.... I haven't tried NAPA yet... I have the middle cable but really need the two rear pieces that go into the drum area.
