Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

I know "uh-oh". This just means i get to spend money on the truck. Started tearing it apart today...more throughout the week. Had to throw in a few of the engine, it will be getting a new home with Brad.

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

Wow, I'm surprised a 700R4 lasted that long with you at the wheel. Now you're in deep trouble, when these fly apart like that, they never want to go back together quite that fast.

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

Trying to locate a 6.2L from a newer GMC Denali...that's the plan. Will see what happens as I get closer to putting a motor back in. May have to settle for a 5.3L since they are easier to find.

They always go back together slower.

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

I do enjoy the smell of burnt rubber in the morning. Goes well with a good hot cup of joe.

Pulled the motor out tonight, next, the trans and then pulling the cab apart.

BTW, the reason the manifolds are still attached is the dumb@!& that did the exhaust welded the nuts to the studs and the studs are welded to the manifolds. Brad, I need the sawzall!

LOL. Yes, and neither of our trucks are running right now. I build to play, if it blows up, it wasn't put together right.

Re: 1969 GMC Pickup

Pulled out the windshield last night. Sold the doors and seat tonight. Going to get new doors tomorrow night. Just need to finish stripping it down and then to clean everything up, and fix some minor rust issues around the windshield.

It has a little rust, the lower corners are a little worse than the uppers. But definitely repairable.

I have changed my plans from a 6.2 L to a 6.0 L. The 6.2's are a bit expensive right now, however the 6.0's are under $2000 complete all over. 4L80E trans to mate up behind it.

Little more work this evening. Removed the back window, removed the pedals and wiring harness, removed the heater box....lots of little stuff. Thinking the dash will be tomorrow night and maybe dropping the exhaust.

Now the close-ups of the bad, but not really bad...fixable. Some rust at the windshield corners and back window lower corners...
