For some reason I can only post one pic per post while using my iPad so that's why I have to do it this way.

Loud ticking lifter. Did a little investigating when I swapped the valve covers. A new rocker arm nut and some adjustments and it sounds perfect

I don't know how to embed a YouTube video so u will have to click on the link below.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod

I adjusted it once a while ago and it loosened up again in 5min because of the worn out nut. All good now. It's nice to have a healthy sounding motor again!

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod

Today my throttle got stuck and I almost wrecked my truck. Something is grinding and causing resistance inside the carb and the throttle won't smoothly return to idle. Been having a lot of problems with this junk edelbrock 1406. Sometimes the throttle sticks during cold start for no apparent reason and you have to jab the gas to get it to come back down. It's not the throttle cable or pedal sticking, it's something inside the carb and it needs a good rebuild. I'm gunna get one of those new Street Demon 625 carbs and give it a try. Everyone just raves about how good they are in comparison so I'm going to give it a Shot. They are about $100 more than a new edelbrock.

I'd rather out that money into getting my brakes and spindles installed but this is a safety issue now so it needs to be addressed.

Got my front shocks installed today. Perfect fit. Also got the front eLevel ride height sensors installed. I'm going to try to work on the back ones tomorrow or the next day.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod

I wonder what shade of blue that is on your truck?Thats to bad about your 1406 carb.My old qjet was stuck on a high throttle it ended up being my fast idle getting stuck.Fixed that but it still ran like crap in the cold.Ended up getting a remanufactured 1406 from a company out of florida. It seems like a good carb so far. They also reman holleys and there qjets have a life time warranty. You have a very nice truck.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod

Thanks man. I'm pretty sure it is something with the fast idle because it only seems to stick on cold start. The throttle jamming when I was driving the other day was because the throttle return spring fell off and got jammed in the carb linkages. I replaced the springs. I just have to keep the linkages lubed up with wd-40 and it works ok for now when I start it. I wonder if there is a worn bushing or something. Whenever I spray it all with carb cleaner it tends to bind up until I relube it again. I went to Lordco parts and they don't carry demon cards and they somehow sold out of holley street avengers over the may long weekend so I am stuck with this one for now i guess. Good news is that I finally fixed my kickdown cable and it works perfect now! I can floor it at highway speed and it drops a gear and takes off.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod

Rear ride height sensors installed last week. Is eLevel is freakin amazing. I am never going back to a non leveling system again. The preset ride heights are so nice to have. You press the button and you know exactly where it's going to go. Zero guesswork. The Accuair is worth every penny I spent. I am so happy with it. Thanks Reno for all the advice along the way!

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod

Cleaning up the engine compartment. I gave it a good degreasing and man it looked even worse afterwards. The truck was originally bronze before it was painted 30 years ago and the faded and crappy looking bronze firewall and inner fenders weren't looking too good. Also the rad support was orig black and starting to rust. After lots of masking and some more cleaning, I shot on 3 cans of satin black and DAMN it looks good now!!! Now I just need to paint my heads orange, clean my intake and get a chrome alternator and bracket and a few other things. At least now I'm not embarrassed to open my hood anymore.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod

Still need to clean up the engine itself and repaint the heads orange. It's getting there slowly. Might pull the intake and paint it silver again. It's pretty stained from years of neglect.

I could take some but I am currently unable to post any pictures here for some reason. It just says my pics are too large now but nothing has changed on my end. I don't know how to resize pics on my iPad before posting them.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod

I was really dreading the task of mounting the sensors. I put it off for months. When I finally did it, it was easy. The elevel is the best thing I ever bought for the truck. I would never run a air ride system without it.

Re: Baby blue 1970 GMC LWB resto-mod

Got some stainless rear cab trim from rusty_67 today, and a new ashtray. Can't wait to get it on. Covers my 'guesstimated' two tone paint line perfectly on the back of my cab. He's got a bunch of trim pieces and stuff for sale if anyone in the Kelowna area is looking. Hopefully I can post pics again soon. I've got new ones to put up.
