hey you guys heres that tire wheel size that wdz28ss had on his truck in those pics...
Budnik Famosa Fat Lip, front is a 20x8 with a 245/40/20 and a 4.5 backspace the rear is a 20x9.5 with 273/35/20 and a 5.25 backspace the rear is a little shorter maybe by 1/4 inch but on the vehicle you can't tell roll em up along side each other and its for sure shorter !
it's a pretty common tire combo i see it in the mags all the time.... good luck.......

Phantom and anyone else doing a rack! I think the rack is going to hit your harmonic balancer/pulleys. I installed my rack on saturday and measured where my motor sits in my suburban and with a 8inch harmonic there will be some interference. I am running a power rack though.
Has some addresed Bill Turner yet about his upper arms with the adjustment of for camber. I am debating if I am going to make my own upper mount to correct the problem or wait on him.
Phantom what is the deal witht the tie-rods with the rack. Bill Turner sent me sleeves but it seems like I am going to have to cut down my tie rods and maybe alittle off the rack. It seems to wide. Going to be finishing up some stuff on the crossmember then its going to be time to disassemble the suburban and get it down on the rockers.

Fastbagged68 - I ordered Bill Turners 2" crossmember drop, motor mounts and rack mount and I am going to be installing a power rack on my truck. I talked to a guy at Bill Turners and he said that I should not have any balancer issues with the rack mount. I haven't received it yet but I will let you know how it goes. What kind of power rack are you using and what is wrong with Turners upper control arms? I haven't ordered control arms yet, and I was thinking of modifying DJM control arms, what do you think?

Thanks,
blaze

Blaze- I got the power rack from Bill Turner. I believe it is from a 88-9x T-bird. Not to sure though. Are you sure you bought the 2 inch crossmember drop. I thought he only sells a 1.25" one. I am willing to bet the rack will interfere with the harmonic balancer. I will get some pics of mine and show it. I mounted the rack as low as I could.
The problem with the upper arms as that they have an adjustment for camber that when you screw them in to make the arm shorter it also make the mount location narrower. When it get narrower then the bracket that bolts to the frame you can't bolt it up. Hope that made sense!
On our shop truck we are flipping the upper control arms. Take the driver side and put it on the passenger and flip it up side down. That should fix ball joint angle. Then we are going to plasma out the middle and make it look custom.

He should have made the tubes parallel with each other and then bend toward the ball joints at the ends. Then you could adjust them in and out. Maybe he makes a suppliment to his "kit" that will correct that problem too! I've been following this thread since the beginning and from what I've seen, I wouldn't give Bill Turner a dime. Sorry, but it just seems like you guys are running into way too many problems with all these parts fitting together. Does he even have this "kit" installed on a truck? I would think all these issues would have been resolved before he started selling this stuff. I'd like to see Bill himself get on here and help you guys out. I'm definatley not impressed. Just my $0.02.

You know slammed67 you are right. To get one part to work you need the next. But that is how alot of things are. He was running his shop out of a small shop. Bill has very good ideas and make some cool stuff. I plan on buying his lower control arms for my next truck and that is about it. I made my own crossmember drop and changed up alot of things he made. But I did not have to. I only wish the upper control arms were how you explained them. I will email Bill Turner and see if he will post on this board! The reason I went with the rack and pinion was because I need all new steering and figured it would be cheaper to get the rack and would be better then the normal steering box. The rack is fairly easy to install. I knew getting into my project I was going to have to change alot of stuff with how drastic I am going so I don't mind changing his parts alittle. I think of it as another way to learn some more info for these trucks.

Fastbagged68 or PhantomDually..... I'm curious as to how much $$ you've got invested in the front crossmember drops + a-arms + steering racks. PM if you'd prefer.

I got less then $800 in my crossmember. I would have to look at my receipts and see how much the stuff was. that is including the rack, upper and lower control arms. I made my notch myself. When I do another one I am going to just buy the lower arms from Bill Turner. You can go get that rack from any auto parts store and to make the mounts is very easy!

I have around $1100 in the crossmember, upper and lower a arms, motor mounts, shock relocaters, upper bag cups, and the rack itself. This has not been a easy road to follow with this setup. Bill has been very very helpful and has ALWAYS made a problem he created right with me. I bit off a little more than I wanted to with this setup but hope I can get it all fiqured out.

Also yes the rack will have to be cut down and use the provided ends with it. Just cut the rack rods first at about 3/4 from were the thread starts then cutdown your tie rod end. I was checking it out tonight and it should work.

Not to say that no one else did not have a problem with the upper a arm adjustment but I did not. As you see in the pics to follow it will go all the way in and mount and come out as well and mount. If yours dont mount then it is real close. It was a tight fit but took less than a few mnutes on each side.

One more thing about the clearance issue. Could we run a 6" balancer and then clear??

i'm with fastbagged on the upper arm adjustment. I just sent my arms back to be narrowed for more clearance (22's). As far as the rack goes, I don't for see any problems w/ rack and pinion except for shortening the rod ends, however I have a little different setup that others (LT1). Fastbagged, perhaps the reason you're having rack issues is because of the 2" drop instead of the 1 3/4 that turner sells. I was considering doing a 2" crossmember drop and talked to bill about it and he said that there would be steering issues. Also he said that I wouldn't need another 3/4 inches....He was right. With his crossmember drop, and arms my truck lays the frame on 20's (28" tall)...Which he said it would, and that time all i wanted to do was lay out on 20's.....now I'm hackin some more for the 22's.

I've spend $920 + shippingon the arms, crossmember kit and a power rack.

For anyone considering doing this....You will need to change things with ANY adjustable suspension...It's not a Bell Tech static drop you can install on the weekend in your driveway....If you want to drop your truck without altering other things, call Early Classic.... Otherwise, wipe your bleeding, whining clit and modify . IT"S ALL WHAT LOOK YOU WANT!!

I am very pleased with Turners service and their products. Sometimes they are a little hard to reach, but they are a small operation...
