Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]
I have a video of a failed burnout. I had it going and started to roll out but the motor (thanks to the fuel filter I'd assume) started bogging and stalled. I'll have something better soon.
But it lays down rubber one wheel peelin' and barks hard into 2nd. I'd wonder if with the clean fuel filters if it's help bring back some power. Last edited by texanidiot25; 02-06-2009 at 07:50 PM. |

Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]
1st night of cruising ended up being at a meet where a street racing bust went down...
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My truck is eating fuel filters like mad. Still washing the rust out I assume, but after a fill up it takes about 2 days of driving to start clogging up the filters to the point where the truck runs out of power in the top end. Enough so that it won't bark into 2nd gear or hit third when floored (my way of testing the fuel filters if it starts to feel weak driving around). It's a beast of a truck to drive though! Even got ford boys diggin' it. Last edited by texanidiot25; 02-09-2009 at 07:51 PM. |

Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]
It was a beast ass malibu done to the sun with underglow.
Besides the fuel filters and my carb getting stuck on the lowest fast idle speed all the time (tapping hte gas as I come to a stop takes it down to normal idle) it's all doing good. |

Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]
But the truck is depressing me...
The fuel filters are getting rapped by rust powder... While the rock cleaning cleaned the sides really well, the amount of powder it knocked off was substantial... It's been a daily affair almost chaning out both carb and fuel line filters the moment I start feeling the truck get weak. I almost got stranded again today, even after swapping in both new fitlers this god damn morning! The mini carb filter is the main problem, the rust powder that's clogging it is too fine for the inline filter, but because the carb filter has no capacity it takes no time for it to clog up... Today I had no choice but to come home on just the inline filter, and that seemed to have done my carb in for the day... It barely got home, puttin' on the last stretch to my house and rolling lifeless to the side of the street... Tonight my dad is gonna try and come and we'll pull the fuel sender and double check it's filter sock just in case.. Probably run the ghetto fuel filter pump system for a few hours as well. Along with the damn fast idle problems this is starting to piss me off. This carb is a mess half the time.. Thinking about getting another q-jet off CL, but it's 50 miles south and I have no time to go there with out the truck at my disposal... Don't have the money for a new gas tank either.... On a happy side note: ![]() ![]() Saw this near my home! ![]() |

Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]
A junk yard tank wouldn't do me any good. Not to mention my only local yard doesn't have any in the 67-72s in back.
Lucky, do you have aim or anything? Hit me up. If that ends up cheaper than 205 then I'd see if I can buy it off you. I've found a blazer tank on here for about 205 and as of late my dad and i were thinking of swapping one in. |

Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]
There should be lots of guys swapping out the stock tanks to fuel cells and whatnot, maybe you could post up and ask for someone to donate to your cause. Lots of guys like your build and understand your teenage budget so maybe they would help you out. Offer to pay shipping. Just my .02

Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]
Read my earlier post, I just sold it to a guy locally. Sorry, I would have much rather donated to your project. I will try and find another one. And old blue, no the motor is still sitting in pieces, waiting for the final few bearings and seals before I can re-assemble.

Re: 1969 Chevy CST/10 comes home [Long-term project "OrangeCrush"]
I never had my camera saturday night when I was layin' down rubber!
I'll see in a few days after I get some driving in on the Chevy and to see how it's doing. The carb was fairly junky so we cleaned it out.. But now of course it idles a tad funny and doesn't feel right. The tuning needles don't do much to the actual motor, and they act in random. Picking up a carb off another member and will end up probably using most of it on this motor... For now though I just want to be easy on it while everything is in limbo on that carb.
