Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

That stinks, but atleast it has the holes for the headliner. It looks like that can be a pita cutting them in the inner roof skin. I have been pondering doing it to my truck. We'll see.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

There is some kind of insulation between the outer roof skin and the inner. I had to pull alot of it out when I welded the outer skin. It stunk up the shop when it was smoking !!! Jon and I cleaned and drained the transmission, removed the pan and washed it, dried it and I blasted it. Gonna paint it in the next couple of days. Lots of little things to do.

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

Just read the whole thread, amazing repair on the rust. I can't imagine trying to fix that. The truck looks incredible! looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Thanks !! It's pretty cool doing this with Jon. Last night and tonight we worked on cleaning the transmission. Wire wheeling the case, bought new seals, and filter. Tomorrow we will be painting the case with aluminum paint. The pan with probably be gloss black. Not sure yet.

Enjoy, Steve and Jon

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

That looks so nice, it would be hard to put paint over it.

This truck is being built to be driven. It will go to shows, but it will be driven to them. I figure this though, if we are going through the trouble of removing parts... we may as well go thru them and re-paint them now. And yes there isn't much original metal left on it, but it sure was fun doing the replacement. Keep on truckin !!!

Re: 1972 Cheyenne Restoration

Jon wasn't happy with the paint on the oil pan... I thinned the por-15 engine paint too much and the rookie ran the crap out of it. Lesson learned. I sanded the runs out today and taped it off and re-shot the Chevy orange. Much better....

Jon wasn't too happy... I would have left it, but he said it would bother him every time he changed the oil....so I fixed it.

I did have a guy comment that I am the only person he knows that would mask off his "Orange" engine stand so I wouldn't get any more orange paint on it.
