Re: Hood poppers

Pull the handle and the hood opens 1"-2". No prying or chipping paint or grills.
Bolts to your stock hood without any modifications or drilling.
I just finished a new batch and the cost of everything I use went up!

I have to make or modify most of the components.

Springs: cut, heat, bend, grind/polish. ***(2020: new custom made stainless springs).
Retainers: cut, grind, sand and punch. ***(Corvette=$$$).
Straps: cut, grind/sand and drill.
Hardware
Instructions

These little suckers are a pain in the butt to build. Please feel free to copy or duplicate these, if you like.

2020 price= $70 a set---shipped

NOTE: The "hood latch" assy is not included...use your existing one.

This may be a stupid question, but does the spring leave any kind of wear mark on what it rests upon while in closed position. Or even when you slam the hood?

Re: Hood poppers

It does wear a little spot. You can just slip a piece of 1/4 OD clear tubing over the bottom coil, if that bothers you.
I will include that with all Hood Poppers from now on.
Thanks, Frank

Re: Hood poppers

If you don't mind me asking, where are you getting the springs? I have an idea for my truck but aren't finding springs.

I can only tell you that I finally had to make them from larger ones, made by a spring company. They still have to be cut, ground, sanded, heated, bent and polished. The spring tension has to be just right to open the hood, but still not "bind" when closed. That is all the specific info I can offer.

Re: Hood poppers

I'm interested in one. Can you tell me if instead of being flat on top, if you can make it more like a bee hive? You know, like a bee hive valve spring.

Re: Hood poppers

Can I just say that looks like a nice GMC. With out the hood letters I can definitely see why you would need this.

Re: Hood poppers

So, I guess this is a solution to a problem i don't know I have, or Might have in the future.
My hood opens fine with the pull of the handle, do they overtime not just pop open? does this Assist the opening so you dont have to pry the hood open at some point?
Looks like a nice addition.

Re: Hood poppers

Astro, mine started not popping up at all, just sitting there when I popped the release. After fiddling with it for a while I got it to work just "ok". Basically lithium grease on the hinges made a huge difference, plus adjusting the hood "spike", not sure what the real name is, to fit more center in the support hole. I think the biggest problem comes from nearly 50 year old hinges. I like the idea of the spring that Frank makes, looking forward to installing it.

Re: Hood poppers

The originals are better than the imports, so I don't sell the import/repops. No new originals available right now. Frank
