is there a tool for this? I tapped it off the shaft pretty easy...but I try to tap it back on with a 2x4 on the edges and it pops back off. any ideas?

Re: 4l60e shaft tube install

These are used when the slip yolk has a hole in the back side for air discharge. That's next to the u-joint. They are not needed when you have a missing spline and now hole. That style is designed to force air back into the transmission. Install the drive line yolk when you press it on and it will keep the piece centered so it doesn't stretch out of shape.

You have likely stretched the thin metal during the removal process.
If they cock back and forth during the removal process it can stretch them out of tolerance. Loctite may be an option? I don't really recommend it but?

I haven's seen too many of these on modern transmissions. Typically THM350 and the like.

If you want to keep it you will likely require a replacement. Your local transmission shop will likely have some setting around. If not let me know as I have some.

An old thread but I thought it may help someone.

Re: 4l60e shaft tube install

well, I had ordered a new sleeve just because i had it off. the new one would not go back on at all. so I installed a new o ring with the original sleeve and it went back on.

hope it doesn't leak. I will know in a few months when I try to drive it.

before I pulled the drivetrain there was a little trans fluid on the slip yoke ujoint

Re: 4l60e shaft tube install

I had a seal driver for the tail stock that I used to drive them on. Yes, they are tight and should be. It wouldn't leak with a good fit and an new "O" ring installed. The dipstick might if you are using the old "o" ring style. Do yourself a favor and update to the new style dipstick that uses the top hat style seal on it. They will not leak. The old ones "O" ring style are notorious leakers.
