I'm working on it! Since LKQ hasn't given me a price yet and won't return my phone calls, I guess they don't want my business. Scratch them off the list! Highway Auto and Tennessee Auto Salvage have not returned emails either, so they are scratched off too. Certified Auto Recyclers is the ONLY one who has bent over backwards to return phone calls and emails very promptly, usually within the hour. So they are the ones I will be buying from. I'll have all the money together by July 31, and have already told the C.A.R. rep I will be calling him first thing August 3rd. They have been great to deal with so far.
Are all of the places that you are calling local? I was quoted $1K for a 5.3 with trans and accessories from the guys that I deal with here in the DFW area, but that would not include shipping. If your deal doesn't work out, let me know.

You have to keep progress going, because you are doing exactly what I wanted to do. When I bought my CTS-V, Mama said no more toys. Turns out she means it. A friend of mine ended up with one of my old Blazers (with all the good stuff on it) and I can't have it. I will just have to follow your progress intently.

Talk to me Goose.....

None of them are local. All the local yards I've talked to in Colorado are on crack. $1200 and up for JUST an engine with intake, no accessories, harness, ECM... nothing!

If your guy can get a decent mileage (75,000-80,000 or less) 5.3 with trans and accessories, I'll pay shipping no problem! My only basic requirement is that it be a drive by wire throttle body, and come with the pedal and throttle control module and wiring from the same vehicle the engine was pulled from.

I plan on documenting this as if I were doing a FAQ on it.... mainly because that's what I want to do. I haven't really seen a very detailed how-to on this swap, so I'm going to try to do this like I did my "How to shorten a LWB frame" FAQ with a lot of detail, pictures, and part numbers.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

It definitely won't be a full on show build, but it will be one where I won't be embarrassed to throw the hood open to show it off in a crowd of trailer queens.

Just nice and clean, just like the General should have done.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

Bob- Try "Search Tempest" to search Craigslist. There are deals out there, you just have to find them. Personally if I were doing an LSx swap, It would be a 6.0 or nothing at all. With top end bolt on you can have 500hp that will run all day long with the a/c on and get decent mileage to boot.

Cool! I am about to undergo redoing my doors this weekend I hope, so this has been quite handy. Did the "butta" tool cost a fortune?

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

I use Search Tempest and Crazedlist a lot. The market for drop-outs just seems different here. I've actually been looking/trolling for a 5.3 for quite a while now, and I just haven't came across a decent deal in Colorado/Wyoming. The yards in this state are smoking everything in site, and think their stuff is gold. And I don't have the time to go pull one at a yard myself, not with mine and my wife's schedules.

This is typical of what Craigslist usually has to offer around here:

http://denver.craigslist.org/pts/1268217564.html

I'm one to tell a person to keep looking too, that those deals are out there. But I haven't found one yet in my area. And if I do, it's usually too far away to make it worth the cost.

For what I have found, the purchase price of a 6.0 is kind of out of my budget range for this project. That, and my main goal is economy first with performance being an added bonus. But if I was trying to build a tire destroyer I would definitely be hunting for a 6.0 for sure. I personally like the 5.3, it has everything I'm looking for.

Re: Glock's new project: "Fred"

So I finally got around to putting on the new "brushed aluminum" overlay piece on the dash bezel last night. I thought it was going to be a real pain to get the old one off at first, but once I took the gasket scraper to it, it only took about 15 minutes to get the old one scraped off.

Then I cleaned the plastic with rubbing alcohol, then used an adhesion promoter stick before sticking it on. I only had to trim 2 places to get it to fit, but it looks factory now!

I forgot to take the camera home last night, so I'll get some pics tonight.

Be careful Bob. The natives get restless if you promise pics, and then don't come through.

LOL, yeah, just a little easier! The 68's bezel turned out to be a full-on custom dash!

LOL, thanks man, I appreciate that! I consider it my finest creation. It took A LOT of time, but I think it was worth it!

On a different note - there is a guy coming out tonight to look at my motorcycle (you can see it in the second pic). If that sells, I will have EVERYTHING ordered in the next two weeks!
