Question 71 205 Transfer case mount ?

Can anyone provide me with a picture or clear description of how the transfer case torque mount fits between the T/C and frame on a 1971 Chevy using a NP205? I pulled mine out without taking a picture and can't figure it out. I'm using a set of Energy Urethane bushing and I'm not too sure I have it correct. I've replaced the stock 4 speed with an NV4500 5 speed and had to slide the crossmember back two inches. With the holes off it's complicating the matter. It looks like I may have to trim the cross member a little to clear the mount, but can't be sure until I know how the torque mount goes in.

Thumbs up

Thanks Beast388

Great pictures. There is one more piece that doesn't show in the pictures. There is a small plate that is formed to fit the cup of the bushing. It looks like the plate would go directly against the other part of the mount with nothing between them. This picture may make more sense, it just doesn't look correct to me.

For what It's worth the Chevrolet parts manual I have shows the parts stacked just as you have them. Is that the color of your entire frame? Looks nice.

keenee thanks for the help. I looked through several manuals and couldn't find a picture or description for the 205 mount. It didn't look correct having the two pieces touching, but there wasn't any better way.

That is the color of the entire chassis as well as the differentials, tranny, and TC. It's actually powdercoating so it should last. Here's a larger picture of the chassis with engine and tranny in place.

torque mnt

Is this torque mount the same between 4spd trucks and TH350 trucks? I am preparing for the swap from 4spd to auto and need to know if these parts are the same? Do any of the board vendors sell the new rubber mounts.

If the rest of the truck is half as sharp as your chassis it should be a real looker, what kind of bellhousing are you using for the nv-4500 swap? Any more pics or info would be appreciated as I hope to be doing the same conversion soon.

cheyenne10, I went from a 3sp to a th350 and used the same pieces for the mount on the side of the frame.

Thanks to everyone for the help and nice comments. I stopped by a Chevy dealership this am and had the parts guy help me confirm the mount layout. He had an old book with a very good exploded view of the mount. It was exactly as the picture I posted had it.

Someone asked if the mount was the same for TH350 and 4 speed. That would be yes, as long as you are using a 205. While looking through the book today also I noticed that they listed a 3 speed as well. I didn't know that the 4x4's came with 3 speeds, so if you have one, it's also the same mount.

The chassis, both differentials, transmission, transfer case, and leaf springs have all been powdercoated. The transmission is a NV4500 5 speed from a 96 Chevy 1 ton. Engine came form a 97 Chevy with complete computer, TBI, alternator, and AC. The bell housing is a GM part from a 94 1 ton. I'm using the hydraulic clutch and slave that is on the right hand side of the bell housing. I have a 4" lift kit on the truck, and have 4" of clearance between the slave cylinder bump and the front driveshaft. I've twisted, torqued, and smashed the chassis as much as possible and it appears I should have no problem with the two hitting. I'm going to cut the bump down some, and plate it up to assure no damage if I really get it out of shape. With a lower ride height I think you would need to use the bell housing that Advance Adapter makes, $$$$.

As soon as I get the transfer case all mounted I will be wrapping up the fuel system. I've moved the tank under the bed, poly van tank, and need to run a fuel feed and return line. Then on to the chassis and computer wiring to see if I can get the Vortec motor to come to life. Anybody done this yet? All of this because my old 350 had a cracked ring. I'll add some pictures as things progress with the paint.
