Suburban "C" question

Are all "C" Suburbans trailing arm suspensions? If so, would that make the frame kick out at the back like the trucks? I am looking at buying a Suburban and I want to make it a 4x4. I have been looking at C20's at least so I get a 3/4 rear, but if the C20 is still trailing arm I guess I would need to get a 3/4 Truck frame and make that 4x4 and put my body on that?

Re: Suburban "C" question

I was thinking the 4x4 suburbans had leaf springs in the rear just like the truck, but I'm not 100% certain.

Yes, I know 4x4 is leaf spring. But are all C's trailing arm?

The Chevy's came with coils stock and leafs as an option and the GMC's came with leafs stock with coils as an option, so if your wanting leafs your best bet would be to look for a GMC. Be aware that there are differences in the pickup and Suburban frames. If you could find a 4x4 Burb or a Burb 4x4 frame that would be the easiest......

If you type "suburban 4x4 conversion" into the Google box at the top of this page, click the circle in front of "67-72chevytrucks.com" and click on the Google button you will find some threads on it. Just make sure the threads you are reading are for the 67-72's the hits will cover all years.

Re: Suburban "C" question

Thanks for the reply. I saw the thread where it talks about the truck and Sub frame differences. I think if I have to get a truck frame, swapping the brackets over isn't a big deal, just more work but I plan on boxing the whole frame anyway so it could work out in my favor if I had to go that way
I found a nice 67 C20, now I just need to find out whether it is leaf or arm rear. It only has a small amount of rust, what I would consider normal no matter where it lived its life.
