more pics, July 31

finally made it down to Livrat's for the caddy instal. was to leave Sunday at 3 pm, but .. starter bit the dust. found one before closing, installed it and was on the road at 5:30. Drove to Olympia and picked up the 425 and was at Mark's at 11:30 pm. started at 9 this morning and had the motor/th400 test fitted 3 trys. Ready to intall them tomorrow morning. I'll replace the 425 with my remanned 500 in august.

Zuesflash, that's your A/C cover.

the big box is a '76 40 gal gas tank.

tranny is a rebuilt 400 with a shift kit, HD sprag and clutch plates AND a new Gear vendors. changed the 14 bolt 3.73 gears to a 3.21 set before I came down giving me a 1400 rpm at 60 mph.

I've been getting wicked thoughts of goin caddy on mine too. I got back in the longhorn today, and even running semicrappy, I accidently get a nice 5 footer second gear scratch.

don't know yet, i see some disc brakes hanging around that i could use

hoping to head home Friday. picking up a new one piece drive shaft in the moring (56 1/2") and then to the muffler shop and next we tune it up.

Is the TH400 a stock Caddy tranny? If so, did you change the tailshaft from a long (13" stock Caddy) to a short(4") tailshaft for the Gearvendors? I'd also like to see some more close-ups of your engine mounts if possible. I've got a 68' Caddy 472/TH400 that I'd like to put into my 67' C20 someday, so I'll be following this thread closely. Hope it all goes well and you're back on the road soon. You're going to really enjoy the stump pulling torque of the Caddy engines.

I would be interested in seeing how to remove (and replace) the front end in one piece. Is there a thread on this somewhere?

It's actually pretty easy, I did it on the 72 Blazer I used to have, it does
take at least 2 people to pull it out/off after you get it ready to remove.

when i'm back home I'll put this all together better. as for the installing of the motor, with the towers needed, Longhornman has an excellent build thread here.

having a small set back, drivers side exhaust manifold has a snapped bolt AND is cracked. spent the better part off the day looking for one. No luck, I'll use this one to get me home and then look for another. I did find a perfect GMC front bumber with the guards for a $100 in a local yard though.

TORQUE! Yur gunna luv it! I get as gooda gas mileage from my 472 Burb ( hard to keep yur foot outof it tho) as I do with the 350 PU.

hell, I get BETTER MPG in my 425 cad p/u with a 4.10 rear, than I have ever gotten in any of my trucks... to include a SBC/3.07 geared 1/2 ton SWB

man it's been a busy week since I've been back.

thx again Mark for everything. The 425 runs so smooth, best buy I've ever made for $300. My 350/350 was getting approx. 9 mpg. I averaged 15 mpg on the way back home. The gas money I saved paid for all the tips I left at the COWGIRLS COFFEE HUT! I've never owned a big block before, don't think I'll ever go back, with the 3:21 rear and the Gear Vendors, I couldn't hear the motor at all doing 70 on the I5. Driving here at home it just chugs around, we have a lot of hills here and I don't have to accelerate to climb. This is only a old drop in 425, getting all giddy with the thoughts of the brand new 500 going in next month. the girls are right, size does matter! probably explains why my social life is so busy
