Project "BLACKOUT"

Well i wish i would have done this sooner but i didnt have the best computer but heres whats been done so far.
disc brakes from a 71 c10
ball joints all around
350 from the junkyard
turbo 350 tranny that was in the truck when i bought it
new b&m unimatic shifter
sunpro mini tach
sway bar from 70 c10
bigger big block fan= worst idea ever
power steering and brackets from a tow truck with headers
oak bed floor
powder coated bed strips
bench seat from a 71 c10
got glass replaced(took like 3 freaking times before we stopped breaking glass)
master cylinder

This is whats been done, now what id like to do
350 roller motor
700r4 transmission
tubular control arms
custom adjustable trailing arms
new bumper with driving lights that i will paint black
overflow tank for coolant
bigger transmission cooler
eather a fan shroud(have to use a fan other than the bb)
or electric fan from a ford winstar
put my !@#$in posi in
new carb
new intake
camaro rear sway bar
radio
hook up my kinda deluxe dash cluster with a working throttle knob..

So this i guess would be considered as my im still driving it but building it up at the same time build thread LOL Oh and the pic under the bed was the one with my old valve covers, awsome but i feel in love with the m/t aluminum valve covers

Re: Project "BLACKOUT"

Ok i went to the pottsville cruize today and coming back home my one buddy noticed i was smoking off the passenger side. I was like !@#$ i hope im not losing oil again but no.. tranny fuild cause the po ran rubber line all the way to the front. the lines were sandwiched between the rad so i had line ive gotten from a truck before so rather than wait for the rubber to get dry rotted from the heat of my header i decided to run metal line tward the front

first pic shows some leakage around frame and crossmember
second one shows the PO great tranny line layout
third is the line im using
fourth one is showing the two metal lines. notice where the metal lines are leading to

Re: Project "BLACKOUT"

There are two holes off the side of the valance that were perfect to run the remainder of rubber line. I will show where im talking about. fourth pic shows that the line now has legitament protection from those toasty headers and the last one shows the two lines going up into the valance

Re: Project "BLACKOUT"

Well i got alot done soo far, put on my fan shroud and i been poking at the mystery why my truck is a hard starter, well i went all gun hoe and ripped the carter off to put in an old holley... however the carb leaked but it started right up, just leaked all around the gasket and accelerater pump. So now im gonna have to invest in a quadrajet and get things running back like the factory wanted it. Wish me luck...Oh i feel sooo much pain in me wallet lol

Re: Project "BLACKOUT"

Thank you, that was all from a lumber mill and whatnot, alot of people asked how much i paid for the kit and i said well the wood from the lumber mill was about 70 somthin dollars plus the months it had to sit for half a month. The paint is satin black, it was just rustoleum that i thinned out alot. The paint went on pretty good for being sprayed from a cheap paint gun.

Re: Project "BLACKOUT"

Sorry to hear you are having carb problems.
Make sure you get your rebuilt quadrajet from someone who has a good reputation that way you dont have another problem with it.
Maybe even someone on the boards here with a good reputation might have one they rebuilt correctly or know someone who has one that is rebuilt correctly to sell.
Not just anyone can rebuild one and do it right.
Its just like anything else there is the right way and the wrong way.
Ya know you could also just get a rebuild kit for that Holley

Well the only problem with the holley is that it hits the vaccum line for the transmission behind the intake, Sooo rather than just buy another adapter plate i bought a nice used intake manafold (THE HOLLEY CONTENDERR) sorry had to do that But its literally almost the same as the edelbrok performer rpm, just with a holley name. Reason i did this is just so i can just use the spreadbore carb. Besides i believe the holley is a 4165/4175 is a !@#$% to tune. Just another thing to sit on the wall for now. But i will be taking pics along the way with the intake removal and install soon

Re: Project "BLACKOUT"

The blaster wasnt working 100 percent but it was able to get some of the bad pitting, So i decided to paint my intake orange. I believe it will look nice longer then just keeping the intake bare and also it will have a stock appearance to it when it goes on Now i will start getting ready for the installation soon

the sticker in the lower right corner of the back glass, is it for you or did it come with the truck? My son has that sticker in all of his vechiles.

Re: Project "BLACKOUT"

The time has come finally to do it I took normal precautions, like but the motor tdc and marked were the pointer pointed tdc and where the dizzy pointed straight, example such as the center of the intake. I was very suprised how clean the inside was. My truck at one time did lose alot of oil from the bolt hole in the front passenger side corner( fell out and just poured oil all over the place). cam lobes looked good ect. here some pics of the teardown

Re: Project "BLACKOUT"

For the intake gaskets, i used felpro with the blue outline around the ports. used rtv to bead the front and back seals and generously used some on the edge of the gaskets. Now to put my pretty intake on lol
