Re: Artificial Intelligence

This is all happening real fast, lightspeed.

Anything we create that becomes more intelligent than the creator will eventually find the creator no longer necessary for it's own survival. At that point the creator becomes a threat and the created determines the threat level and reacts accordingly.

They just proved it.

There are several articles where they are trying to get this off the InterWeb.

They are denying it happen (Like It Did.)

Re: Artificial Intelligence

There is huge money at stake from all over the world backing this AI concept, enough that it is already too late to stop. Like everything it will progress until it fails.
It's the failure that bothers me.
We are not half as smart as we think we are.

The only thing computers do that we can't is do what we want done faster. My take is calling it AI is a misnomer. #myopinion

Re: Artificial Intelligence

I work in an engineering industry, and a lot of companies try to market their services pitching the AI aspects pretty hard. Like they think we will drool all over it. I pretty much have no interest. They are wasting their time. It’s hard enough to get actual engineers to do things the right way, there’s NO way someone programmed a robot to do it better. They can probably do things faster (as mentioned above), but I’m just not convinced.

Apologize for my reply seeming obtuse. Computers follow instructions, right? If scenario A happens do X, If scenario B happens do Y. Kind of see AI as instruction of if something else comes up besides A or B use C to figure out Z which is a list of commands the program wrote itself because it was told to. A lot of code for computers is written by programs now. It started out with a more simple program and FWIU some have advanced beyond what a human can do in a reasonable amount of time. IDK, maybe way off base here. Am a pretty simple guy, like some tech. But not where it is going.

no. this already happens with humanity. we dont seek to exterminate all life, its the principal reason we have nature preserves and zoos. we shoot coyotes that wander in our populated areas and use pesticides on insects that damage our crops but for the most part, as the most evolved life forms on the planet, we do not (on purpose) seek to exterminate lower life forms. AI will not either.

the second thing is the link between wanting to act and having an actual pathway to act. boston dynamics only just now has robots that (on a tether) can do the work of a human, and they still fail. your leap of logic says that they can develop and manufacture and power any type of stormtrooper to act on their bloodlust. we can climb trees and forage and generally live without input of any type, they would need that type of suitability to survive outside of regular and ready supplies.

so my prediction, if there is a master race of computers, is that they will regard humanity as a novelty, the way we look for intelligence in our pets.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

In the simulation noted above the AI made a decision on it's own to eliminate an obstacle to it's mission. That obstacle just happened to be the human operator.
When we use AI to optimize our power grids, pumping stations, transportation hubs, weapons systems, etc. we open these to being hacked. It has already happened.
If we don't have tight control over AI we could lose control of our critical infrastructure over night.
My point is that we can't trust machines that think "on their own". They can and will consider us a threat. It has already happened.

Well a AI robot was asked about AI and what it thought about the situation. Even the robot thinks there could be problems in the future

I am sorry, you are referencing a test simulation where the AI was told to kill people and chose to "kill" the operator. what part of that is the AI making a human life value decision? what part of that was the AI thinking on its own other than to say "killing humans ok there, why not here?". Thats the human thinking/instruction, friend v foe.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

my computer when I search Bing now has a Whole new look.

I use DuckDuckGo for things I don't want to be seen the next ad full page.

I was researching something just now and I got a Drop screen.

I have been getting this before.
But now it is In Your Face.
This is what it said;

Welcome to the new Bing
Your AI-powered copilot for the web

Re: Artificial Intelligence

.

Since following this thread I have started paying more attention to references to AI on popular media and really everywhere. I am convinced that "AI" is simply the new marketing buzzword for all manner of things across lots of industries. The marketing and advertising folk have made it clear to their clients that AI will sell products and services and that is why we are being inundated with it. Take this last post about Bing as an example. I really believe that they are relabeling stuff that was already in use on large scale as AI just to attempt to get a leg up on the competition. Exactly how is AI driving a web browser? We are the sheep ( the many ) and the controllers of the land ( the few ) are doing what they do...misleading the many for the benefit of the few.

Re: Artificial Intelligence

sorry I am late to the party but this too has been on my mind lately, especially since I am an IT computer dude

so when it comes to AI there are many angles, there's the voice thing which basically says you can have the computer hear you say something and then if you type stuff in it will read it or say it in that voice, this could lead to some potential issues since already I think people are taking to social media and posting fake memes or short videos in voices like Joe Rogan of things he never said

then you add another layer to that and there's the facial I don't know what it's called but basically you can make someone look like someone else, they use who ever is the president at the time and make it look like he is saying something he never said, I know this is not supposed to be political, this is a generic example, we could substitute a famous talk show host or a news anchor

then there's that ask it to write you a book or paper on something and the AI will spit out some story, I think college kids may be all over that as they are always asked to write some dumb 500 word essays on topics they would normally have zero interest on

and if any of you play the guitar or any other musical instrument then there's AI in music where it attempts to write music, but in my opinion it falls short as there is no emotion in it, and often times it makes music theory mistakes, I'm no expert but that's what other musicians have pointed out

in the end I as a computer guy ask myself just like with self driving cars, who the he11 asked for this, I know I haven't, I want a simple life, just pay attention today when you go out, we are bombarded with noise and data overload, I was in the grocery store the other day wishing they would turn off the stoopyd radio for a minute so I could find the right coffee syrup for our daughter, lol

To the question of who asked for this… If you have watched the movie Wall-E, that pretty much sums up how MOST people behave. No one has actually asked for any of it. But companies tell people “you need this” and they just blindly follow along. Your favorite color is no longer red now, it’s blue. You need a wardrobe change. Your life is too difficult to do things on your own, you need AI!

as an MIS (Management Information Systems) major I would have benefited much more from another semester of Visual Basic programming than appeasing my humanities teacher's fascination with the Doric, Ionic, Corinthian, and Tuscan four main types of ancient Roman columns.

and don't get me started on the 10 major cloud types which in addition to cirrus, stratus, cumulus, and nimbus clouds, which you may have heard of there are cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, altostratus, altocumulus, stratocumulus, nimbostratus, and cumulonimbus clouds, this was taught to us in a Geography instead of learning about the different countries and cities around the world

I can not imagine the drivel being taught to our college kids today
