Hi Luther

Thanks for the comments . I miss that car a lot. Basically , I wasnt driving it much. I built It before I bought this farm. Lived in i neighbourhood all pavement. Got this place and now I have 2 km of dirt road to make it in or out. We are suppost to get pavament this summer. The guy who bought the car off me has it forsale again too. For much less than he paid for it . If we get paved maby I will go knock on his door.....

That green one you sent the link for was nice . Almost Identical stance , and wheels.


As for the steering , looking forward to the pics. Inparticular the 55 column end .

Hope you and your family has a great x mass.

Yes they look really big on the floor. And it's a lot more fun to do burn outs with out holding the brakes.

Hey diesel wrencher . You seem to be real sharp on the Cummins stuff. On the fuel shut off sol , I need to apply a constant 12V to keep eng running correct? I figure you will know. Also do you think I would be asking for trouble if I used the holes in the front of the block on the sides to make my mounts ? I ask this becouse the 55 to 59 frames Have a nice solid crossmember up front and the old 6cyl's mounted off the front. I figure I could make a nice strong angle bracket , bolt it up to frame and maby use Inboard boat eng mounts. It's how we mount the 5.9's in the boats for inboard applications . Figure it should work for me .... Maby....

Let me know your thoughts on this .

That looks like a super resto you are in to . Keep up the good work . Going to be beautiful when done .

The big truck build is super as well. Makes my cummins swap look like a walk in the park .

I am looking to get back on the NAPCO sometime next summer. The big truck is almost done now. Good luck with the 6bt.....I have been intrigued by the diesels but have not caught the bug yet.

ill toss in my two cents until the other Ryan gets here. I would not run a 6bt off the front mount area and the normal transfer case/transmission mount. that is leaving ALL of the weight of the engine and transmission levered on the aluminum bell housing. that is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1300 pounds. it will have a tendency to loosen the BH bolts and crack the housing. in the boats i assume that the drive they bolt up to is rather strong and sturdily mounted very close to the flywheel housing.

you are correct on the solenoid. 12v to open the solenoid and supply fuel, cut the 12v supply and it cuts the fuel.

I cant take your advice . You went and put a body on top of that beautiful frame !!

I went thru your build last nite . Didnt get to bed till 2 ! Your fab work is amazing !

I would just put a bucket seat on top of that and drive it around to show off.

I had the same concerns you did abt the bellhousing . That's why I was looking for more input. Thinking I still may use a boat eng mount just fab brackets in the center in orriginal position.

My fab work is now where close to yours. I need to fab in 90 deg angels .

Hey while I have you do you know where the oil pressure sender is ? Im sure I can find it but I just thot I would ask .

its mostly functional, i didn't spend as much time finishing as i could have, if i ever do a show type rig, then ill really spend time trying to make it perfect. i think mounting in both locations is a cool idea. that would make the engine sit in the frame by itself. then tranny swaps and clutch jobs would be that much easier. the only issue is the a/c compressor, assuming you are using it. the mount for that and the lower water outlet uses the right side mount area in front.

patience is virtue when fabricating. no matter what level you or your tools are at, a little extra time can make the difference between a well fitted part and something kind of ugly.

ill attach a picture of the oil pressure sender on my 2nd gen 12v. i bet its the same on your 1st gen engine but i may be wrong





its the little fitting/electrical connector behind the PS pump on the block

Yep I have that same sender . Just wasnt sure if it went into water or oil.

I may use a hydroboost. have 2 early 80's setups somewhere . They use the typical power steering pump? I thot u were using hydro so I figured you would know .

As for the mounts I meant I'd do same as you . Stock location on eng and make up a cross member for trans or maby use dodge one. Just with more 90 's Lol.

Is your truck up and running ? i didnt see a date on your last post . Eyes kept trying to close...

I get where you are at on the mounts, sometimes my brain is a little slow...

you can use a non HB steering pump. there may be a some flow/pressure issues with that but that is an easy fix with the flow orifice and pressure spring in the pump. literally a half hour to up the pressure and flow with the pump in the truck. i've used non HB pump with HB and had no issues before, so it may not matter either way. if you have a non HB pump you have to either add a return port to the can for the HB or Tee the steering box return. both ways work. i plan on adding a return port to the can on mine, or finding a pump from 1st gen 24v truck that had HB and use that.

my truck is no where near running. i just got started doing rust repair on the cab a few weekends ago, and i am slow in making progress. my garage is cold and i am lazy! hope to get the cab to the blaster and then to the paint/finish body guy in january. then the fenders and doors. then the bed. the paint is being done one area at a time so i dont have to swallow the whole bill at once. i still need to get a wiring harness, lift pump and torque converter and rebuild the dana 60 before i can think about it being a runner. and i think i am going to use the green and white bed on the parts truck and use a different bed i found locally on the diesel. but there is some bartering/fabrication i have to do before that happens, so....

Going to be nice when done. For what it is worth I used a American auto wire harness in my 56 1st time around . It was a super product and super easy to install. Detailed instructions helped a lot !!!. Had a lot of opitinal upgrades available as well.

Hey ryan .

I think Im goig to take your advice on the frame boxing . The front anyway. I just got the Stock steering box out and the frame kinda looks swiss cheezy there . No rust or hacking just too much light shining thru holes to make me think it will take the weight and added tork.

This will be a cool project to watch. My daily is an 06 cummins ram 2500 HD with a ton of mods. Definitely can smoke the tires like all hell too especially when pulling a trailer.
