Re: Battery relocation/ charging terminals?

Oh, alternative charging posts. In my build thread post number 380 shows what I did with mine.

It looks like your battery location is where I put mine also. I went with the sliding drop battery holder. It has two holding locations, one full up and another that drops 4 inches to the next catch, this allows you to lower the battery to access the cables. Then it slides all the way down from there.

Re: Battery relocation/ charging terminals?

I’m doing the same thing, I “plan” (you know how those change) on mounting the terminals on the inner fender in the very front corner by the radiator support.

Re: Battery relocation/ charging terminals?

those are jump points, which i need to add under my hood
for a charge point, i just connect to the battery lead on my alternator
i'd think you'd want a jump point under the hood on a lowered truck
come right off the starter post up to the inner fender

Re: Battery relocation/ charging terminals?

I am looking for a good location on the 57, And came up with inside the cab behind seat in the cab corner. When your slammed you cant get under and my engine bay is clean.
In my 67 i went for the bottom of the inner fender where it meets the core support, seams to be a good access point.

Re: Battery relocation/ charging terminals?

I just used a coupling nut on the positive post on the starter. Open the hood, connect the pos jumper cable, connect the ground & you're good to go. cheap and simple.

Re: Battery relocation/ charging terminals?

hey cab4word67 that might not be a bad idea but bodyman has my cab working on it. nvrdone the coupling nut wont work for me and 2" header tubes.

Hi! I had replied to your pm, but it said your mailbox was full, so below is what I wrote:

Hi, unfortunately, I don't have any pics illustrating how I ran my battery wire, but my battery is/was underneath the passenger side with a drop down battery box, then also I had a cut-off switch.
But if you still have the battery under the hood in the original location and aren't going to install a cut-off, it shouldn't be too difficult. Pretty much install your new battery posts where you want them, I had run the ground terminal to the frame, but then to the engine block.
The positive terminal could come right off the battery or perhaps the starter post. The positive cable really needs good insulating so not to ground out! That's a double !! Can't count on the insulation which comes with most battery cables as they may wear and that would be bad, the ground doesn't matter.
As far as running the new cables to the new terminals, just have to be creative how to run them, probably closer to the battery might be a better idea and perhaps more convenient.
let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions, sorry for no pics, plus I also had sold the 59 back in August to pay for my '72 Bronco project

Re: Battery relocation/ charging terminals?

I put the battery on the frame. I'm running an LS truck engine. I used the factory battery cable from the starter to the jump post by the alternator. Then a fusible link from the charge post to the alternator. I installed a "Battery Brain" on the battery to use as a remote disconnect. 0-gauge cable from battery to starter.

Re: Battery relocation/ charging terminals?

if using the remote posts for actual jump starting instead of just charging, the cable needs to go to the battery or starter and be large enough to handle large amperage, like 500 amps. try for the least amount of connections along the way. a boost point behind the seat works as long as they are protected so they don't get shorted out when somebody throws something back there. I would say the passenger side so when or if boosting the driver can sit in the seat and work the controlls properly and see the gauges well. just my 2 cents though.my boost points are under the hood. if a shaved look is done on the truck so the door openers are poppers there should also be some sort of manual release for times when the battery is dead etc.
