Small change, big difference

Who knew moving the exhaust tips would do so much?

Exhaust exited out the side, right behind the rear wheels. that created two issues:

-Every time I pull into the garage, during the last two feet all the exhaust is blowing inside, making the whole garage stinky.
-When I pull up to get a cup of coffee at a local drive-through, the exhaust echoes between the brick wall and bed of the truck. Too loud.

I don't want the exhaust straight out the back, as I tow a trailer occasionally.
The solution: Moved the tips out to the corners, under the bumper, angled out slightly, with a 45 degree downturn. Truck still has the same V8 loping idle, but after spraying the exhaust with high-heat rattle can of flat black paint, it is pretty much invisible.

Start the truck, and the exhaust is already blowing outside the garage. Couldn't be happier.

It's totally incorrect for our trucks, but I run mine back out under the rear bumper... and it's a 133" Longhorn! Can't get much further away than that.

Re: Small change, big difference

My 'Burb has duals pointing straight out the sides behind the wheels, and I'll probably always leave it that way just because it's the sound I remember since I was too young to remember. My '85 had them straight out the back when I got it - love the look and don't mind it when towing but when I have the tailpipes redone I intend to go out the sides, as well, partly because it's factory and partly because I remember dad's '86 with the stock exhaust plus some oval, early 70's Chevelle tips my grandpa put on it on a whim. I keep quiet mufflers on my stuff and don't mind exhaust, but to each their own. Davepl, I dig the longhorn!

Really? ....It makes the whole garage stinky? ....I never considered that a "bad" smell myself, I bet a Prius wouldn't do that.
