DIY valve cover mod to address Oil consumption for LS motors.

This guy shows how to modify the valve cover baffles to enhance the oil vapor separation and drainback the oil rather than ingesting it into the intake.

Re: DIY valve cover mod to address Oil consumption for LS motors.

There are a number of videos I've watched about this oil consumption "fix". A couple of guys say there is a later GM version of valve cover with a bit different baffle. I wonder if a guy could insert some wire mesh into the large opening of the valve cover baffle to separate oil and air at that point much like the pre pcv engines of old had in their crank case breather/oil fill caps.
Also there are a number of guys adding oil catch cans into the pcv system. Pretty simple. Google oil catch cans and you'll find a few vids out there on that too. I bought a new pcv valve for my 03 Tahoe and was surprised to find it is a hollow case only. There is no check ball inside so it pulls engine oil vapors full time. If it left GM that way it has to be right, right? My Tahoe with 265,000 miles leaks way more than it uses I'm sure. My 09 Yukon with 180,000 miles uses oil. A quart or two between changes and it has that dreaded cylinder deactivation feature that is said to be a cause of oil consumption as well.
You can find videos on youtube on how to fix most anything in the world it seems so you be the judge.

Re: DIY valve cover mod to address Oil consumption for LS motors.

It's mostly the AFM engines that have a reputation for oil consumption.
If you aren't loosing oil then I wouldn't worry about it.

If it works it's free. If it doesn't work you're no worse off than you were before drilling the holes in the baffle.
