Rust pitting

Name: IMG-2583radiator.jpg
Views: 337
Size: 33.3 KB I did this 32 years ago. The very first thing I painted with the silver rust sealer/ surfacer. I showed it for 18 years at the shows for 18 years/ People ran is thier fingers over it and smooth it out . it's got lacquer primer and paint over it. Repaint is one thing . preservation is something else

Re: Rust pitting

I'm curious about the repair because I have some rust pitting on a front fender that I need to address. I don't want to cut out and patch if possible.
Thanks, 7D2N

Re: Rust pitting

Apply 2/3 thin coats then Prime and paint just like I did on that radiator shell. It comes in three different viscosities you have the Slim sprayable from the can , the Original formula which is a latex consistency and then there's the Extreme which is more of a paste for really heavy pitting .Any area you had rust is where you use these products then apply Automotive primer and paints over it. Be sure to coat the backside is well

I have heard of Rust Bullet. I will need to put a light body filler on to smooth out so before or after the sealer.

Thanks 7D2N

Re: Rust pitting

You can use an acid etch on bare Steel Apply two coats of the silver sealer over the metal then your body filler sand it out and apply two coats of silver over the body filler then Prime and paint. When you put the sealer over the body filler solvent can't penetrate it this is how you prevent sandswell marks. If you use an epoxy over it let it cure complety scuff it and then paint it.

That's pretty cool! I missed the tip about wearing gloves, it took 3 weeks to wear off!
