Question Color of panel beneath tailgate -- '72 K20

Was at the shop yesterday, got a question about the narrow panel (back of the bed?) that runs side-to-side just below the tailgate and above the bumper. Should it be body color, or black? Right now mine looks like a dull black (primer?) and nobody knows what it should be. I can't remember, not that I ever paid much attention to it -- it's fairly well hidden. I looked at pics here on the site but couldn't tell for sure if it's black or just in the shadow.

Originally from the factory the rear of the bed sill is painted body color. Looking at what pictures I have I can see how it looks black, the tailgate throws quite the shadow in that area. Hope that helps

It's gettin' close, Dale, but progress remains painfully slow. Still to go -- install glass, replace headlight they broke, white-letter the tailgate and put on the lower trim, connect fuel lines & gauge wires on the saddle tanks, install side mirrors (they broke the glass in one of those), and probably several other small details. And paint the very back of the bed, the part just visible below the tailgate.
