S10 swap fukle tank filler

Where is the best place to mount the filler hose for the fuel tank on a 50 s10 swap? I have the stock filler hose and cap off the donor, will that work?

yes, i usually shorten it a couple inches and then make an oval hole in the bedside. this way you can take the bed on and off. I used to make it flush to the beside, what a mess that is, and because it comes out square/perpendicular you always spill gas on the running board. letting it be at that angle helps with filling, doesnt require a contortionist background to get the neck on the tank, and is 10,000 times easier.

I did one for a guy and he had me right angle it up to the bed floor. that works too.

Re: S10 swap fukle tank filler

What about running it out and putting what resembles a stock 47/48 pickup or 47/55.1 Burb filler neck on it? Most guys would never catch that was on the left side rather than the right side.

Even a stock 48 tank is a pain in the keester to fill with a fast running pump. That said you need the filler opening up a bit higher to get it to fill without a hassle and you need to be able to get the displaced air out just as fast an smoothly as the gas wants to go in.

I'm putting my tank under the back on my 48 but plan to run the filler out between the fender and the post and have it run up a few inches if I don't break down and put it in the fender.

classic parts and probably most of the rest sells a filler neck for 47/48 https://www.classicparts.com/1947-48...tinfo/23-222A/

Re: S10 swap fukle tank filler

I have seen a few like what joedoh is talking about, poor design where you need to be a contortionist to get at the filler. and, like mr48 says, you need to get air out of the tank as fast or faster than the fuel goes in. if you think about it a newer vehicle has the filler sitting at an angle so you can see it and also hear it filling. when it sounds like the fuel is coming up the fill tube you know you gotta click the handle off. my project is a task force, so a little different fender angles etc, but I used the stock filler tube and cap, also the filler door that I bodyworked into the rear fender, that way the filler is spec'd to the tank for fill capabilities and also venting. I used some fuel grade hose to connect the filler to the tank. it is placed high up, just under the bed rail, so filling won't be an issue, I have filled using a 5 gallon fuel jug tipped up and had no issues.

Re: S10 swap fukle tank filler

here are some pics of mine with a fuel door on top of the fender. it's a task force but you could do similar on the front side of the fender. the fuel piping runs inside the fender out of sight and will have a mudflap in between it and the tire to protect against rock damage etc. the door is big enough to easily get your hand inside to take the cap off. some newer vehicles also have a plastic bowl affair that fits around the filler to insulate against the qeather inside the fender, so to speak.
anyway, just some ideas. I did see one where the builder had piped his filler pipe inside the box stake pocket and the cap sat above that. it just becomes a bit of a pain if the box has to come off or you want to haul something that needs to be tied down, unless you install another place for a tie down

Re: S10 swap fukle tank filler

Has taken a bit of time to make this, but is an option.
Early 50's Chevy sedan EFI tank from Tanks Inc.
I wanted something that was different but looked like it could be stock.

Tail lights are motorcycle fog lights, thanks for noticing.
