Post Dual Snorkel Air cleaner?

Anyone have a dual snorkel air cleaner that would fit a '74 Chevy truck 350 with q-jet? Thought it would be different to have one if not I can still use an original.

How about something like this?

The installation is easy on a 81-87 because the radiator core support already has cut out holes you can use. The holes are next the head head lights holes!! Visit this webpage for more pictures http://www.73-87.com/photos/engine.htm
I would do it to mine but I have a '91 grill upgrade and the core support does not have the holes.

Check www.ebaymotors.com. Search under Corvette or Camaro, dual snorkel. I see setups now and then. The above snorkel will allow you to use a 4" air cleaner compared to a 2.5 or 3 inch factory dual snorkel.

I was just wondering if they would fit or if anyone had one laying around. I was looking more for a early 70's vette or late 60's.

Re: Dual Snorkel Air cleaner?

Is there any benefit to the dual snorkel setup?... I know that theoretically if you can force more air into the motor, you can get increased power through pressurizing the system (same concept as cold air intake, turbocharger and supercharger). What I don't know is if the dual snorkel system is capable of increasing air intake enough to make a difference??? Anybody know for sure?

Re: Dual Snorkel Air cleaner?

I ran one off of a '68 GTO. The main benefit I got was that I liked the way it looked.

Did you run any tubing to the outside of the engine compartment? Or just run the dual snorkels like the pics above, just opened up over the motor?.... my plan was to run duct work to the front of the grill, a kind of homemade cold-air induction.

I just left it open. No sense in getting excited over a 180 HP 5.7 TBI......

I'm just trying any way to get it to run more efficiently that doesn't require spending big money. Just for reference on my budget $75 is Big Money.
I do get excited about it though, because it's mine, I've always wanted one and above all I love it. If you offered me $5k for it I'd turn you down without a second thought.

Re: Dual Snorkel Air cleaner?

I need to finish sandblasting mine then prime and paint it, but I happened to find a picture of one other day on the cc thread. Mine will look just like it except with the tall lid.

I was also wondering if anyone would buy these If I made some like this. (I would upgrade my membership of course)

Re: Dual Snorkel Air cleaner?

Tony, that's what I want mine to look like and how it will be set up. Just need to get the pieces together, which will probably involve just a single scrap yard trip.

Here is the one on my diesel:

Of course it has silencers installed but same theory. I doubt you will notice any HP gains but you may notice MPG gains. . . .

That's what I'm going for MPGs, when the gas prices are $3.69/gallon, it's all about the MPGs. Lol.
Everything that I can afford to do will be done, because most internships can't afford 38gallons a week.

Yeah, but here's my context: I have an internship with a $300/month stipend and I have to drive 47mi one way to get there.... I could kill that $300 in gas in 2 weeks or less, depending on events.

Where are you at that makes $3.69 look good????

Re: Dual Snorkel Air cleaner?

The ones on the camaros were only on the h.o. 5.0's, and yes they added hp, on a dyno test in an 87 camaro it gave it 18 rwhp, but that was in a camaro, I have two of them sittin around I jus wish they were taller, and u also can't buy the pieces that hooked to the tubes that went on the core support anymore. I work at a body shop and have done some custom ones for people and they worked out nice, all u need is two cleaners and take the tube off one (some are riveted some are spotwelded) and make a paper templet out of the hole left and trace it onto the other one were u want it and cut it out and have a local shop tack it on and then u can paint however u like. It's really easy.

Talking Re: Dual Snorkel Air cleaner?

I'm looking to do a dual snorkel on my 1984 C30 with the 1987-1991 air cleaner, I have the 2nd snorkel piece but I have to put it on upside-down to look right and when I put a mock setup it will not let me put a plastic snorkel on the driver side because the piece faces the master cylinder.
